YAY! It's here and it's finished...I was so worried about the two of them bleeding all over the place.

You capture this moment perfectly. The stoicism, the concern, the different belief systems. And I love the end, when Zoe places her trust in Mal. Wonderful stuff!

Thank you for your equally lovely comment. I'm so intrigued by why Zoe has such loyalty to Mal, I feel like I'm unraveling a ball of yarn to get to the beginning.

Oh, I loved this. Loved the perfect Zoe-voice, and Mal doing what he always does and waving off his own pain to focus on his men.

“We. Don’t. Die. Our boys don’t die. Our sergeant don’t die. Don’t none of us die!”

They nodded in salute to Reynolds.

“ ‘Cause it pisses the sergeant off something fierce,”

I especially loved this. It rang so military-true. This whole story rang true. Wonderful job.
