Still bangin'

Kids like to come into the Apple store and use the iSight cameras built into the computers to take pictures of themselves. A group of kids were in yesterday for quite a while and I didn't pay much attention to them, except one younger kid who was running around more and listening to the iPods, asking/singing (not sure which), "You got party like a ( Read more... )

Back in the day the big gangs were the gansta disciples and the vice lords. In elementary school my friends and I were standing around the bike racks. There was a vl spray painted on the ground, which had been there for years. People started talking about whether the GD's or VL's controlled their neighborhood.

Another time I was chillin with a couple of friends on one their's front porch. The topic of riding our bikes came up. One suggested that we wear bandannas and went inside to get some. When he came out he handed to our other friend and he said "You know I can't wear that color, my brother would whup my ass. He's a GD."

Those are my two gang stories.

A few years ago I saw a tag at the Intersection. It said, "We're the Shithawks. We fuck your grandmother and we sell your kids drugs." For the next few months I saw Shithawks written in a couple more places. I haven't seen that written in years. I guess the desire to to be part of a club that fucks grandmothers and sells kids drugs has gone down.

That's too bad because I would totally join that club.

You are way more connected to someone in a gang than I ever was. I do remember fearing GDs, seeing the Star of David everywhere and forks. I heard of Vice Lords but they were far away I think.

I think I'd rather be in the East Ave Boys due to their hand signal appearing much easier to execute than the blood sign. If I was in the bloods I think I'd just carry around the picture of the guy doing it rather than spend five minutes straining my hands and forcing my fingers into that position.

Oh man! I didn't even realize that his fingers actually spelled out "blood". I was trying to figure out how one could decipher which was which.

I had a friend in 6th grade who could do that. He tried to teach me on the bus every day on the way home from school but I never quite got it. I fail at gangs.

I wonder about thugs who are colorblind.

Aren't they just flashing "the shocker" in those last two photos?

That aside, I'm pretty sure that the kid in the lei comes into the library all the time. I think his name might be Anthony, but who knows. The others all look somewhat familiar too, but who knows if I've ever actually run into them or not.

Question though: Do the pictures save for the benefit of the store? Or are the people who take the pictures just forgetting to delete them?

In all fairness to gangstas, the way to make an "E" with your hand the way they do came first and "the shocker" has the index and middle fingers pressed together.

The pictures are auto-saved but get erased on start-up so I had to swoop in.

Why are they all congregating at the Apple store?

because Apple is "fresh" and "pimp".
