everybody looks better in scrubs. maybe not better, but at least like they look like they belong. you put on the scrubs, suddenly you're on the team. only the badge gives your station away. fuck. have i mentioned this? so one of the biggest problems i have with the hospital environment is the "brave new world" atmosphere. i'm a gamma minus ( Read more... )

there is definitely a scrub apparel snobbishness. i'm actually glad that as part of my job i HAVE to wear scrubs, because then i don't get looked down upon quite as much as i would otherwise. however, as was pointed out by a temp we had a while back, people still look at your feet and your head to guage your importance: if one is wearing shoe covers and a lid, that means that one is somehow attached to the ORs. or at least trying to look like it. after he pointed this out, i noticed that people in the stairwells and hallways would look first at my head ("hair is covered, check") and then at my feet ("oh, no shoe covers - move on"). quite strange. also, during the summer months, i would wear scrubs back and forth to work out of convenience (they're actually kind of nice to wear: they're light-weight, breathe well, and are pretty much like wearing pyjamas) and noticed, for the first time, women looking at me. i mean, really looking at me. good looking women. good looking women who don't KNOW me. because i was wearing scrubs ( ... )

yes, i see the stream of hospital uppity-ups leaving at around the same time i do and they're all driving nice(er) cars. it's to be expected, but it's still a bummer. i haven't seen any custom plates, but i think that's just part of the seattle way.

oh, and thank you for the compliment. i felt like it sounded contrived (which it wasn't), but i guess that's just me and my self-loathing.
