Heaven

And then, there's Heaven. I mean... all we have to do is say "God, i know you're out there. I'm sorry that i've done so much wrong in life. I don't know everything, only that for me you sacrificed your son on the cross. And i know that i need you. Please, come into my life and save me" and poof, you get to go to Heaven. you've just made three huge posts about suffering being good and being the way we make ourselves better. so you're saying we just drop everything and ask for it and it's ours? what happened to the struggle for goodness and right? it's hard for so long living our life and then choose god on a whim, live it for a couple years and you're set? what kind of suffering is that? how do christians get to be "better" christians? and don't tell me there are not christians better than other christians. there are, you know that.

Ok, maybe a better way to put it is "If you just drop everything and ask for it, the door opens". Then as a Christian, a new struggle begins. Its not a struggle that's necessary to attain eternity in Heaven, but rather.. a preparation, IMO. Its my belief that earth is a place of preparation. Not only is it decided who gets to go to Heaven, but even more, the way we live decides other factors in our after-life. Its something i only recently came to believe and am still exploring that idea.

Christians become better Christians by putting self interest aside and 'taking up the life of Jesus'. Being Christ-like. By doing what God wants you to do, you grow and improve.

Heh, and 'better' Christian isnt a term i'd agree on. Stronger, yes, but not better.

so if you're saying there are multiple options to the afterlife and there are all kinds of goofy things that affect how things go after we're dead, i'm on board with that one. saying "i believe" and all that junk and then you're saved hallelujah is too all-encompassing for my likes.

Well there are verses about our treasures in Heaven, and how we'll be judged, and other related things. But those verses are not numerous, and not uber descriptive. I think if there were verses that focused on how we'll be rewarded, more Christians would be motivated to do 'good works' for a reward rather than because of love (which is supposed to be the Christians' motivation).
