I've seen Eraserhead and The Elephant Man, they are ace and you should watch them. The Straight Story is also pretty good, as far as I recall.
I really need to watch the rest of his films, though. And watch Eraserhead again, because I really have only the vaguest notion of what was going on there.
Wait, I take that back, I have seen Mulholland Drive, or however you spell that. I actually wasn't very impressed with it. I'll definitely check out the ones that you mentioned, though.
Really? I got the impression Mullholland Drive was one of his more critically accepted films (Lost Highway notably received two thumbs down from Siskel & Ebert, which was then promoted in the actual movie advertisements as "two good reasons to go see Lost Highway", which I think is great).
Anyways, it's kind of difficult for me to recommend stuff to you because I don't really know much about what sort of films you like, but Eraserhead is pretty far out and if I remember correctly, The Elephant Man is one of the weirdest biopics I've ever seen in that it totally could be a feel good weepy movie in different hands, but instead it's fairly straight but with a sort of unnerving, creepy undertone (which is kind of appropriate, I guess, considering the subject). I remember parts of it kind of scaring the shit out of me when I must have been like, fourteen, and watched it for the first time. I haven't seen it since then and really should re-watch it...
