Right, I understand that everybody has their own opinion, and I totally respect that but I don’t see how a Bones fan could be anything but happy at how the finale unraveled last night. Hart and Co have shown us repeatedly that we should trust them as they know the exact route down which they are taking Brennan and Booth. Yes there has been times when it’s been frustrating and we ‘hated’ Hart but if you re-watch Season 5 you will find so many well written parallels even I was shocked at how many there is. They really highlight how far both characters have come and show that Hart and the team have a plan for Booth and Brennan and have done since day one.

Read this post by heytherebella to see more of the parallels in detail.

I have images in my head of Hart just laughing at the fans who have been so worried and angry at points during the last few seasons of the show (me!) who really needn’t have worried at all.

At the start of Season 6 a lot of the fans were seriously annoyed with the direction the show was going in, and many complained, some even stopped watching (including myself!) and many lost interest in Booth and Brennan. BUT in the episodes since Hannah’s depature the writers have done a wonderful thing with piecing Booth and Brennan back together in a very realistic and plausable way without taking away from the implications their departures at the end of Season 5 and Hannah left.

The writers have worked on them as individuals as well as their relationship and have brought them back together in a way that has shown incredible growth on both of their parts. Brennan especially. She needed to turn down Booth in the 100th episode and go away to Maluku and loose what they had to discover how much he actually means to her.

Booth said in Harbingers ‘sometimes you have to settle for second best’ and this is exactly what he did with Hannah, and he almost convinced himself he had truly moved on. The writers have shown Hannah WAS just a consolation prize and in his attempts to move on he had resigned himself to second best. When Hannah left, they didn’t jump straight back into being ‘Booth and Brennan’ instead they were reintroduced to each other as the ‘new’ Brennan who had grown from rejecting Booth and her experience in Maluku and was longer the broken and tired Brennan we saw at the end of Season 5. And in stark contrast we were shown a broken Booth whose attempts to move on reverted him back to the Booth that proposed to Rebecca out of obligation. The writers portrayed this ‘new’ Booth and Brennan’ perfectly; slowly episode by episode they have reestablished them self as partners and friends but with a new understanding and respect for each other which has now made them stronger, with Brennan willing to risk loosing the last of her ‘imperviousness’ and Booth, his ‘anger.’

For Booth and Brennan to be where they are now they had to go through several things together - the Gravediggers, Brennan being worried about Booth 24/7, their respective departures to Maluku/Afghanistan and finally Hannah.

It has taken all of that to finally get them on the same page as each other. Which is why it was so much better than ‘comfort sex.’ Sometimes things just happen like that, I know from personal experience things fall into place when you least expect. Yes, Booth was comforting her but loosing Vincent caused Brennan’s emotions to finally override her logical mind and rational way of thinking. She turned to the only person she knew who could interpret what she was feeling when she couldn’t explain it herself. Then she so blindly accepted his explanation because the one thing she had trust in was Booth. And after many episodes of inner conflict with himself - with the help of Brennan, Booth has finally been able to let go of the anger he was holding on too.

‘The Killer in the Crosshairs’ was all about Booth’s pretense that he’s moved on - he tells Sweets “I don’t do that any more, that’s over” yet his eyes completely betray him and then he asks her anyway at the end of the episode proving he was lying and it’s not over. This was the kickstart to him loosing the rest of his anger.

Brennan has grown in their time apart and this episode was him realising just how for she has come, and how much he has actually missed; even though he had been right there. In his attempts to move on he missed the main part of her growth and I think a lot of his anger was him beating himself up about it. During ‘The Killer in the Crosshairs’ Booth tries to tell her how she thinks/how her thought process RE Broadsky applies to him and she just proves him wrong by showing him how much she’s grown emotionally - she went against everything she believed in because she believes in him. I think this shocked Booth and made him realise just how much she’s grown and what he’s actually missed.

Her growth and faith in Booth is again highlighted by last weekends episode in the ‘bedroom scene’ which is why, for now I think it’s okay we didn’t see it happen. Brennan was finally at ease with her emotions and how she felt and Booth was there to assist in this revelation and what happened was clearly such an intimate and person moment - even with the explosive chemistry between David and Emily I don’t think any writer could have done it justice. Seeing Brennan so comfortable and open with Booth, and for the first time in the series she was not dismissive about her feelings/relationship with Booth to Angela just further highlighted her growth. At the end of the episode she didn’t even think twice about taking Booth’s arm for comfort because she was so comfortable with his presence. Booth’s smile then was probably the first genuine smile we’ve seen for a very long time.

A lot of people watch the show for different reasons but for me it is all about Booth and Brennan. I have been invested in this couple for years, romantically and the last two episodes have been the ultimate pay off. It wasn’t about them having sex, or kissing or anything thing else. For me to see how they finally became a couple and how everything fell into place. That being said I think the writers ultimately wanted to show us and the network that Booth and Brennan can be together and their chemistry and dynamic remain unchanged. This is why I think, heading into Season 7 we will get to see the sex/the kisses and them being a couple. Booth and Brennan have never been conventional, their story has always been told backwards which is why the writers deliberately haven’t shown certain scenes but have most probably filmed them. I think we will see the lead up to the sex (and perhaps the sex scene itself and the morning after)/the rest of Brennan’s conversation with Angela and Brennan (the camera deliberately came away from Brennan whilst she was talking to Angela in the hospital - indicating she was about to say something/they filmed a scene and aren’t showing it) and finding out she was pregnant in time. I feel it could be done in a montage similar to the 100th episode and their story will be told. We’ll just have to wait.

I feel sorry for anybody who doesn’t feel like what we’ve seen is enough, especially when it’s obvious we will see the rest of their story. When you break it down they have been written beautifully and as Booth said, ‘everything happens eventually.’
