i don't think there is any ONE such thing. i think that honesty is huge, but so is love. attraction has to exist or else you wouldn't be interested in the first place. respect, compatibility, and the ability to compromise are also important.

if you start out a relationship with some attraction but not passion, can passion grow or not?

i think so. to be completely honest, when i first met ron all i knew was that i wanted him in my life - as a friend. i just thought he was a really interesting guy. and in fact, the very first night i met him i spent the whole night hanging on this other guy i had just met and flirting with him.
of course the more i got to know ron that changed...and VERY quickly.
