i watched silver linings playbook last night. the last quarter of the movie unfolds like a bad sitcom episode. i don't get the hype.

s. said the best part was jl in spandex and i called him a pig, but secretly? agreed.

I don't get the hype either. It was formulaic. Even if the acting was good.

Yeah, the movie was not very good and also the whole thing pissed me off because that guy was such a fucking douchebag and treated her like crap really until he had his "aha!" moment and was like "wait i love you" and i thought it sent out some message like "you should keep on chasing that dbag who calls you a whore and uses you to get to another woman because eventually he will suddenly realize he's in love with you and you will live happily ever after!!" Also, they both seemed like charicatures (sp?) of people with mental illness and they both came off kind of obnoxious in their own ways (like her screaming that he was molesting her or whatever the fuck), so I don't think it did anything positive in terms of making people more empathetic to people with mental illness and was just kind of like ... we are scary and we scream a lot so you should probably avoid us!!

All that being said, JL looked very hot and I dug her Philly accent. And yes, spandex!

yes! i couldn't for the life of me figure out her motivation in chasing him all the time. he was a total dick to her! and why in the world did he fall in love with her? their relationship wasn't fleshed out at all for me to be able to comprehend this "love".
i do think they did a great job portraying mental illness, largely because the supporting characters, despite being more functional, all had issues as well.

she is so friggin' babely.

Yeah I did like how they showed the mental illness of the supporting characters.
I mean, it makes sense that she fell for a dick who didn't love her back, she seemed self-destructive in general even though she was really trying to get better. I just don't buy that them ending up together was really that happy of an ending. And I didn't see him falling in love with her...I just saw "oh hai i'm in love with you" one day. And the thing about the mom pushing them together and just ugh yeah bad sitcom. i kinda of want to read the book out of sheer curiosity.

oh the mom, YES. one of the biggest stretches was when she agreed to lie to him about nicky attending the dance competition. what...? totally inconsistent with her character. and why would nicky attend her husband's dance competition? she has a goddamn restraining order against him.

i didn't know it was based on a book!
