We may just have to go back to sharing stuff old-school. There used to be video trees which sent VCR tapes via mail.
My issue is no longer having access to media which is not released in the US. I've bought DVD sets from Canada, but there is other stuff out there that, if not for MU, I would never have seen.
I really noticed how used I got to MU when I realised I haven't even got a program for burning CDs/DVDs on here anymore. Yeah I agree with you, release it and people won't steal it. Preview stuff and people will get interested, I think there must be ways for promotion like that...
Downloading just gives people an opportunity to casually have a look at or listen to something they might otherwise perhaps not engage with, and those people for which that is not the case are daft, anyway. So true! I always download and preview albums/movies/TV shows before I buy them anymore, and I'd say 90% of the things that I've bought physical copies of recently I had access to first because I could get them on the Internet (since I don't have cable and only got Netflix recently... and Netflix in Canada is spotty anyway). If the MPAA and RIAA and TV people would take a step back and actually look at how exactly people view online content, they might actually see that, no, they're not really losing any money from people watching things online (and may in fact be earning money, considering the people who would have never seen their product in the first place and manage to become fans through viewing it online). If someone likes something enough to buy it and they have the money to do so, generally they buy it. Yeah, someone might
( ... )
If something like netflix existed where I live, i would get it. Lovefilmw as always stupid because "hey, i feel like watching this movie in 3 days!" D: The same goes for hulu. Hulu is now an on-demand service in japan, that mostly works on mobile devices. Other countries don't have stuff like that or Spotify, at all. So they want people to buy things, but they do not promote them in a way that would make me, of course I am gonna get my own preview at some point!
It's for the Japànese stuff for what I am really sad, losing stuff that won't be recovered *cries*... Apart from the fact that I don't watch any other thing than Japanese stuff... it was already difficult to find stuff and the subbing teams are in this constant state of paranoia... that well, it's what really worries me. I buy the stuff they release but not everything is released for buying so... well it's a s***
one point I criticise about the MU shutdown is that it happened without a warning. I know many people who had a paid account there that would have laste for many more months and now they find out that they've paid for nothing. And I also had some things saved there that are gone now. I still have them saved somewhere, but I don't think that I'll upload them again...
Damn it, I HAD Star no Koi on my extern Hard Drive that died on me this summer, I didn't even get to watch it -.- I also had all Kindaichi episoded on there, this sucks :/
I added you now :D I believe in the power of fandom, and thus finding someone who kept SnK... but I disappooint myself as Goro fan, most of his stuff will be lost, I didn't keep it and mostpeople do not tend to keep it either...
I'm with you on all this. And well, people used MU for storing/sharing personal files too, so what about those people and their files? Files that had nothing to do with piracy or anything. For me MU was exclusively fandom stuff, now I'll just have to find another way.
Fun fact (and totally random): apparently the ceo (or some other important dude) of MU had a dual citizenship of Germany and Finland.
Yeah, unbelievable! people who used mU for what it was meant to be used for! I just never did this because if it was truly important, it could always be deleted for some reason, which is why I am not freaking out too much. For some Kinki stuff, I hope I can ask ppl for reups.
