He sighed and put his chin in his hands. He stared ahead and his surroundings slowly blurred. He should be paying attention to what his teacher was saying, but he had thought about him again and how is he supposed to focus on anything with thoughts of him running around in his head? He sighed again and folded his arms and laid his head on them.
“You’re doing an awful lot of sighing over there, Hongbin,” someone said next to him.
Hongbin peeked up from his arms and tried not to gasp. It was him. He composed himself and sat up. He looked around and noticed the classroom had cleared out. He was surprised his teacher hadn’t bothered him for slacking.
“How long have you been here, Jaehwan?”
“Only about 10 minutes,” he replied.
“Then why did you only just now say something?”
“I’m not sure. You seemed like you were sulking so I waited. However, I can only wait so long when I’m hungry. You want to go get something? I’ll pay,” Jaehwan said and smiled brightly.
Hongbin tried not to gasp again. Why’s he so beautiful?
“Why are you frowning? I just offered to pay for your food,” Jaehwan asked, looking confused. “I mean, it is a huge honor for me to pay for your food but-“
“Shut up, where do you want to go then?” Hongbin laughed and grabbed his bag from beside him and stood up, motioning for Jaehwan to lead them.
“Home, honestly. We had pizza last night and there’s leftovers. Do you want to go out or is that fine?”
“You’re just trying to get out of paying for me,” Hongbin asked and nudged him with his shoulder as they walked through the hallway.
“Only half true! The pizza was really good, trust me,” Jaehwan said while laughing loudly, gaining looks from others.
Hongbin laughed too. “Fine, but you owe me now.”
“And I’m perfectly fine with that,” Jaehwan said and looked around. They’d made it outside. “Do you want to walk to my house or take the bus? The walk would take like half an hour, not sure about the bus,” he trailed off, probably thinking about the bus routes.
“Let’s just walk, it’s nice out,” Hongbin said and went in the direction of Jaehwan’s.
He’d been to Jaehwan’s before - of course he had, they’re best friends and have been for years - and enjoyed being there. Or rather, he simply enjoyed being with Jaehwan.
They were walking in comfortable silence for a few minutes before Jaehwan broke it. Not that Hongbin mined, Jaehwan’s voice was one of his favorite things.
“It’s been a while since you’ve been over,” he said.
“It’s only been a few weeks,” Hongbin responded, chuckling.
“That’s a while! I’m so used to you being over at least every other day,” he said and smiled in Hongbin’s direction.
“Is that a complaint? That sounds a lot like a complaint,” Hongbin said, laughed and nudged Jaehwan’s shoulder again.
Jaehwan put his arm around Hongbin’s shoulder, “Now why in the world would I complain about you?” he said. “Unless I’m complaining about how much you move around in your sleep. That I will complain about.”
Hongbin reluctantly pushed Jaehwan’s arm off his shoulder in mock annoyance. “I don’t move that much in my sleep!”
“That’s a lie and you know it! One morning I woke up and your arm was draped across my face,” Jaehwan said and demonstrated.
Hongbin laughed. “That’s just too bad,” he said. They’d made it to Jaehwan’s house already.
Jaehwan walked ahead of him and went in. He threw his bag next to the door, took off his shoes and headed in the direction of the kitchen. Hongbin did the same and followed.
“Help yourself to the pizza, I’m going to go grab my laptop,” Jaehwan said and nodded towards the fridge.
Hongbin complied and stuck his pizza in the microwave. He was eating at the table when Jaehwan walked back in with his laptop, music playing already. No sooner did he set it down, that he was singing loudly while getting his pizza.
“Family not home?” Hongbin asked, after nearly choking. He had no idea when his crush on Jaehwan got so bad he couldn’t breathe around him. He’d heard Jaehwan sing plenty of times before too.
“Nope,” Jaehwan smiled and sat down in front of Hongbin. “And to celebrate this moment of temporary freedom, Park Hyoshin!” He turned to his laptop and shuffled his ‘Hongbin’ playlist.
“It’s amazing how well you know me,” he laughed so much that he closed his eyes and threw his head back.
“You’re beautiful,” Jaehwan said.
Hongbin immediately stopped laughing and looked at Jaehwan fiercely. “What?” He knew he hadn’t heard that right.
“You’re beautiful,” Jaehwan said, smirking. He leaned forward so his face was closer to Hongbin’s.
“No, you are,” Hongbin said without thinking. He realized what he said a split second too late. “Shit,” he said and leaned backwards, away from Jaehwan.
Jaehwan giggled and clapped. “Seriously?” he started bouncing in his seat and started belting Hyoshin’s loudly.
Hongbin groaned, closed his eyes and put his head back again.
He asked Jaehwan without looking at him, “Why are you so happy about that?”
“The love of my life just told me I was beautiful, why wouldn’t I be happy?”
