“WHAT?” Hongbin shouted, sitting up so fast he hit his chest the table. He put his hands down in front of him to stabilize himself and stared at Jaehwan who was still beaming and clapping.
“The love of my life, the only one I love, the one I want, et cetera,” he sang, putting his left hand on his chest and his right hand in the air as if dramatically singing an opera.
“I have no idea what to say right now,” Hongbin whispered.
“You could say you love me too, that’s generally what people who are in love do in these situations,” Jaehwan said and turned the music on his laptop down a little bit.
“I have so many questions,” Hongbin trailed off and finally looked away from Jaehwan. He was starting to feel sick with how fast his heart was beating.
“Then ask them!” Jaehwan said and put his chin in his hands.
Hongbin looked back over at him. “Why? When? What?”
“Those aren’t very good questions,” Jaehwan pointed out.
“Why did you tell me that? When did you start to love me? What is happening?” he whined. Then seeing Jaehwan pout a bit he revised, “Not that I mind because I obviously don’t, seeing as how we’re - for some reason - in love and all.”
“Well, I’ve been meaning to tell you for some time but how would I do that? I am afraid of rejection as you should know, besides ‘masculine, boyish Hongbin’ - How was I supposed to know you loved me too? As for when, it’s obviously been a long time but I didn’t realize it until our third year. As for what’s happening, I’m not sure myself. I’ve only gone on one date and that wasn’t a fun experience,” Jaehwan rambled off and looked deep in thought.
“A date? Dating? Us dating? You and me? Jaehwan and Hongbin? A couple?” Hongbin swore his heart was going to burst out of his chest.
Jaehwan smiled again, “Of course! But you need to ask me on a date first.”
“Uh, no. You were the one who offered to buy me food. You need to ask me on a date,” Hongbin blurted without thinking again.
Jaehwan grinned. “Okay! So Hongbin, will you go on a date with me this weekend?”
Hongbin’s heart constricted and he gasped, clutching the table.
“Whoa, are you okay?” Jaehwan shrieked.
“No, I don’t think I am…,” Hongbin got his breathing under control again. “You’re literally breath taking, Jaehwan.” He put his hands in his lap and put his forehead on the table.
He heard Jaehwan pause the music and then felt a hand on his shoulder that shook him lightly. “C’mon, let’s go play video games or watch a movie or something,” he looked up and Jaehwan looked happier than he’d ever seen him.
How in the hell am I going to handle this? Hongbin thought.
