The Autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard

My Twenty-Third book for ljbookbingo is The Autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard for the TV tie-in square found here.

The Autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard tells the story of one of the most celebrated names in Starfleet history. His extraordinary life and career makes for dramatic reading: court martials, unrequited love, his capture and torture at the hand of the Cardassians, his assimilation with the Borg and countless other encounters as captain of the celebrated Starship Enterprise. ~Amazon book description

I have loved Jean-Luc Picard since I was a child. My father is a Star Trek fan and so I grew up watching the original series as well as The Next Generation. Picard was always my favorite character so when I saw his autobiography was coming out I had to get my hands on it as soon as possible.

I have to say I greatly enjoyed this book. We get to learn more about Picard's early years and who he was before he became Captain of the Enterprise. We start in France and learn about his strained relationship with most of his family and then his journey to Starfleet academy.  How he became captain of the Stargazer and his time on that doomed ship. I enjoyed all the cameo's especially the very timey-whimey relationship between him and Guinan. His time as captain aboard the Enterprise is lightly hit upon I think because we have 7 seasons and many movies to watch if we want to know about that time in his life. The end chapters were also well done because I was always curious about what was next for my favorite captain and now I know.

But I have to say the best thing for me is the fact that this book made Jean-Luc Picard a fully fleshed out character because we see him grow and change, we see his successes and failures, and we see his flaws and his strengths. Basically we get to see Picard as human and therefore he becomes more real. If you are a fan of the show I would highly recommend this book!
