Jack's approach to gods is... well, it's so very Jack. *g* Coming to think of it now, there's a silent conclusion hovering in the air: he prays, endears, and deals with all gods he meets or hears about (heh, sort like the ancient 'si deus si dea', he would surely liked the idea), but only one black-sailed goddess has his worship and Jack himself. I love it in him.
(And Norrington's conclusion about deities' help for Jack was adorable. *g*)
I like very much Jip's reasoning on saving lives, and how it clashes with the law's judgement. Speaking of what, this chapter brings also the perfectly hit Norrington's core (as I see his core at least), the struggle between duty and conscience.
And first and foremost, it was so great joy to see the new chapter! Sadly, I have reached the last line and there's no more for today... I hope so much it won't be really the last line, and there will ( ... )

It's always a relief to discover that these words I've gone over so many times I can scarcely hear their music anymore do still resonate with readers. Thank you for telling me so.
I like your analysis of Jack's relationships with divinity. I believe I've called the Pearl the god of his idolatry before. You're certainly right that Jack only worships her ( ... )

I know what you mean about own words re-read so many times that they lose any sound and meaning. This particular scene, sails unfurling, commands flying, the ship gaining speed, really has music background, and timing and general feeling of a movie scene, yet before any music is mentioned.
In general, Jack's relationship with the Pearl is one of his basic features, in my eyes, some very deep part of his soul. I'm never tired with this.
Thank you for the treasures you bring!

I'm really pleased the music I hoped was there was actually there. I always have an edit pass where I am telling myself that I must make the language pretty.
Jack and the Pearl have always been two parts of the same soul for me. :D
You're so welcome. And thank you.

Everything about this was gorgeous: the standoff, the resolution, the celebration -- and Jack's metaphysical lovemaking with the Pearl after their escape was wonderful.
Samuels and Groves are just marvelous here. You had me choking over Jip's fate for a while, though, I confess.
My two favorite quotes of the chapter:
“They say that certain ships, for the right man, will do anything but speak. I believe the Black Pearl is such a ship, and Jack Sparrow is such a man.”
“I am well aware of the length and the breadth and the depth of insertion of the legal stick up that young man’s . . . ahem.”
A fitting resolution to an amazing story, madame. Now, I look forward eagerly to the epilogue.
Hands down, the best story ever written in this fandom.

Since I'd already written the Pearl's run past the Dauntless once in this story, I was worried that I'd never manage to top that. I still don't think I have, but it's good to know the standoff and final escape work in their own way. As for the celebration, you know my Anamaria, my fire-eyed maid--never happy unless she's blowing something up :D
Jack's metaphysical lovemaking with the PearlThat's a great way to describe it. I've certainly put a lot of that in this story. There is something about that man and his ship that makes me wax all poetical ( ... )

Yeah, well, long as I can haul it to work tomorrow and get something done...just wanted to say ummmmummmm good story..yep indeedy. Sleep well, little miss and dream piratey--have you figured out yet on which side of the family you're related to Jack Sparrow? I know we're all spirit children of Gibbs... God, the scene when Twigg is throttling Jack through the bars. Mr. Depp is a tiny man when compared to those individuals.
