...Before I lose the pairing. Because that would be really sad.
This is for theme # 17, kilohertz. (thank you so much,
tasoka-chan. [/sarcasm] ^__^ Really, though, thank you for beta-ing.)
---Sleep---
Sound waves, while they can oscillate many thousands of times per second, are not the highest-frequency waves in nature.
Omi stared at his textbook, staying awake through sheer force of will.
Sound waves, while they can oscillate many thousands of times per second...
He had an exam tomorrow, and therefore could not afford to sleep yet. It was an important exam; it would count for ten percent of his quarter grade. He had to stay awake long enough to study this last chapter.
...oscillate many thousands of times per second...
Why couldn’t he understand that one sentence? He’d certainly been reading it long enough.
The text blurred on the page. Omi fought to keep his eyes open.
...thousands of times per second...

Ken couldn’t sleep. He’d woken up in a cold sweat two hours ago, heart racing from a nightmare, and while his pulse had since calmed, he could not get his mind to quiet down. Finally, fed up with tossing and turning, he decided to go and get himself a glass of water.
He padded quietly down the hall, careful to avoid the floorboard outside of Yohji’s room that squeaked like a dying mouse when anyone stepped on it. As he passed Omi’s door, he paused.
The light was still on.
Ken frowned. It had to be about three in the morning. When was Omi planning to go to sleep?
“Hey, Omi,” he said softly, giving the door a gentle push. “Studying won’t help much if you fall asleep in class...” Ken’s voice trailed off as the door swung open to reveal Omi fast asleep at his desk, his head pillowed on his textbook.
Ken smiled to himself.
---
When Omi woke up, he found a blanket around his shoulders and the rapidly-fading dream of a kiss on his forehead.

Man, this theme was hard. I hope it turned out all right!
