Dear internet

Please stop telling me that my sexuality isn't real, or that I'm just following a fad or slut-shaming. I don't appreciate it at all. Also, just because some people who identify as demisexual apparently talk all the time about how hot they think John Barrowman or Benedict Cumberbatch is doesn't make the entire sexuality "bullshit," thanks ( Read more... )

... wait, it's such a difficult concept that people don't get it?
I never really had faith in humanity, but honestly.

(Tbh I was SO HAPPY when I found the term recently because I was getting tired of explaining how a couple of my characters worked. "It's not that they have high standards, it's that they really don't get the drive unless they're really close to a person, that's why it looks like single target sexuality". If it feels that annoying explaining it for a character I can't imagine in real life)

Apparently so? All I know is there's a giant, wanky thread on f!s from yesterday where people were trying to argue that by definition, demisexuality was slut-shaming, or that it's ridiculous to have a separate word for it because it's "what everyone does," or that demisexuals just want to be special snowflakes, or that we're lying about our sexualities, or I don't know what all else.

I was really happy when I found the term, too, (a couple years back, or so) because I finally had an easy way to describe how I work. So the fact that I've seen nothing but hate for demisexuals in the past couple months makes me pretty sad.

....Mostly it makes me rage-y, though.

... what. Really.
Well I guess I've seen the argument that asexuality was just being stuck up holyer than thou bitches so I guess I shouldn't even be surprised anymore.
But seriously guys, way to be stupid.

I guess in my case it might be easy to understand because while I experience both primary and secondary attraction I experience them really differently, so I can separate them.

But yeah it's just... augh. /facepalms

WELL HUH YOU HAVE A BI/PAN ALLY IN ME????? for all it's worth

Yep, really. I think it might be related to the anti-asexual arguments, possibly, but the stupid is so strong that it's hard to tell. /sighs

THANK YOU, I APPRECIATE IT :D
