Ever have a moment when you realize you accidentally did something totally brilliant while writing? I just did. Woohoo! This story may end up working after all!

Yes. Isn't it wonderful? Especially when everything else magically falls into place after than and the story just writes itself from that point on.

What happened is that I gave my ill-conceived baddie a random name (Paul), and then I was looking up some stuff about Celtic mythology for another plot point and discovered Pwyll Pen Annwn, and boom! My plot totally gelled. I love it when that happens!

Ah, you mean naming a character and then looking into the name and then finding all kinds of stuff in myth and legend that will flesh out that character in ways that never would have occurred to you otherwise, give him a life and purpose so far beyond the vagueness he started with, and drive your story to a depth and breadth and direction you had not even imagined when you started writing it? Nope. Never had THAT happen. LOL It's a thrill when it does. Exhilarating, really.

I did, at least once that I remember. It's a wonderful feeling!

I don't know about "totally brilliant", but I do remember the feeling of flailing over a plot, going "what if this happens?", and then seeing everything snapping into place right through to the finale. Great feeling, isn't it?
