[Thoughts] Rebirth of Mothra trilogy

So.... because of Godzilla 2014 hype... and the fact the site I usually streamed drama online happened to have Rebirth of Mothra, I ended up watching. Cos yeah... lately I've grown attached to Mothra.

Rebirth of Mothra trilogy

Having finished all three movies... I can safely say that all three shared a similar theme. It's different than Godzilla, yet kinda similar in terms of the environmental message the usual Toho movies always sent out. And Rebirth of Mothra movie had a certain unique trait; the one playing a major role to save the day (aside from Mothra and its shobijin) are children. It's actually a great message in this aspect where the movie tells its audience that children are the hopes for a better future.

The Rebirth trilogy also featured another theme (aside from Mothra saving the day with help of human children) that is the relationship between Mothra's shobijins or priestess'; the Elias twins Moll and Lora. There's also an elder sister who was the dark Elias called Belvera. In all three movies, Belvera often being the catalyst that brings about/encourage the rampage of the enemy kaijuus thus starting the whole plot. And aside from the relationship between the twins, their differing point of views also influenced the movies. While the Elias twins still have hopes that humans can and will become better, Belvera thinks that humans are not to be trusted and will bring disaster to the land.

The first movie had Death Ghidorah as the threat, as a manager from a logging company inadvertantly released the seal that kept Death Ghidorah asleep. The second movie involved Dagharah, a monster created by the old civilization of Nirai Kanai. And the last movie featured King Ghidorah in all its mightiness, partially being the cause of the destruction of the dinosaurs.

Overal, the plotline was enjoyable. We get to see the humans side of the plot as well as Mothra's side and it's pretty balanced. And since the trilogy was aptly named 'Rebirth' of Motra, well... there's a lot of rebirths to be seen on all three movies. The first from the first movie was the transition between an ancient Mothra; being last of her kind, whose tasked was passed to its larvae (who ended up growing to become Mothra Leo) to continue the mission to defeat Death Ghidorah. The other two rebirths from the remaining movies then saw Mothra Leo gaining new abilities after being almost defeated completely by the enemy kaijuus.

But honestly... more reasons to love Mothra...

How could...

... you not...
