Harry had beem caught in the library Saturday afternoon by a more persistant group of fifth year girls; their giggling traveling through the bookshelves so that he wished Madam Pince would come around the shut them up. As much as he tried to use his I'm A Professor voice, the girls only giggled harder.
He packed his things hurriedly and just as he ducked around a corner to escape them, he ran into Lupin, who seemed to have the same idea. The thought that he'd been avoiding Lupin didn't cross his mind as his face flushed red and he nodded vigorously, thankful for the exit cue.
Harry followed Remus out of the library and toward the edge of the lake, where he stared off lost in thought about his surprise run in with Ron Weasley just two days before. He zipped his jacket up against the wind off the lake and kept the companiable silence, rather than be the first the break the ice.
The two men walked to the edge of Hogwarts grounds. "Shall we to London instead of Hogsmeade? There's something to be said for anonymity at times..." Remus suggested.
"Apparition would be fastest and we won't have to be back at any time. Might be nice for you to get away from the 'fans'."
Harry was surprised at Remus' understanding, but nodded anyway, "The Leaky Cauldron, maybe? Tom's pretty good about keeping the place quiet." His voice was low, he was embarrassed, and as little as he hated to admit it, things like this still got to him. A small part of Harry had hoped that when he was a teacher, the students would treat him like it.
Remus Apparated away with a kurt "pop" to the Leaky Cauldron and waited for Harry to join him. In the split second he was alone, he realised just how lonely he had been lately and how much he'd been wishing for close company. It was times like this when he missed James and Sirius most and longed for the days when the fierce friends, along with Peter, had explored Hogwarts grounds and followed teachers and made too much noise in the library and caused lots of trouble themselves. It had been a happier time, before the first war, before the death, the destruction, before Remus had lost Lily and James, and before he's lost Peter to his own weaknesses, before he'd lost Sirius to Azkaban and death.
The longing for someone who could truly understand Remus for what he was and who he had been took over. He needed a drink. A strong one, at that.
"Shall we?" he asked, as Harry showed up next to him.
