Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
This would've been appropriate fifteen days ago. But not anymoooore.
It was my dream
to succeed
and have all of my efforts made worthwhile
to attain
the surest way to long-lasting comfort
to relive
the joy I felt when my dream was derived
My dream was deferred.
What happened to my dream deferred?
My dream
grew stronger
as I realized how deeply I desired it
grew weaker
as I became conscious of my other options
grew wiser
as I learned the true mechanics of a dream
