I have two. One which I pay for, on a fixed-fee monthly minutes plan, sans contract. I live my personal life with that one. The other is work's Nextel. It is for work purposes. (And the occasional jaunt with TeleNav GPS software.)

Got ya. How often do you use TeleNav? In what occasions? And how was your experience with it so far?

I do have a cell phone, but I hate the thing. I only have it for work emergencies and were it not for the fact that my main gig relies on me being available/on call at all times in case of such an emergency, I would not have a cell phone ( ... )

I had one phone to begin with (TMO), then came another for work (Nextel), then work decided I needed immediate data access, so another TMO for work. Now that I am in limbo with this company, I only have 2, 1 Nextel, one TMO Blackberry Pearl that serves as my personal phone and laptop data connection.

I am thinking about a move to 3 again so that I can have a line dedicated to blackberry/data and another for voice. I am in no way planning to use the nextel for voice, it is there only for iDEN DC calls!

What are you using iDEN DC for?

Do you use Bluetooth to connect your laptop to the internet via your BB pearl?

Do you use any SMS?

Thanks!

In the beggining, I was using iDEN DC for a dispatch service for work, now with less job-wise, I am using it for communicating with friends that have boost/nextel phones. I also can use the data connection if I have no other way to connect, but that is rare. In addition, the data rate is ~2K due to the lack of WiDEN support locally.

If I lose the nextel, I will likely just go for a simple Boost plan.

I use Bluetooth to connect to my roommate's tablet, (Motion Computing L-series) but USB to connect to my own laptop. (NEC Versa LX)

I do not use any SMS directly, mainly due to cost. If I want to send any sort of SMS, I can look up the carier in question, and send through their own SMS/eMail gateway with my blackberry.

I do have a Boost phone that I have been testing with free incomming SMS/email, but I have neglected to get pay that one for lack of need.

I've never had a mobile phone, and I doubt very much that I'll ever have one.

Why? Because having a landline phone is quite enough. More than enough, in fact. I don't wish to be at the beck and call of anyone who has a sudden whim to talk at me. I use the phone for things that I can't do by letter or by e-mail, and to be contactable in emergency. Very few things in life are urgent enough to warrant a telephone call.
