CHARACTER NAME: Pietro "Quicksilver" Maximoff
FANDOM: Marvel Earth-11052; X-Men: Evolution
CHRONOLOGY: Post-Season 4, episode 2: No Good Deed. Shortly after Magneto’s death and the Brotherhood’s rise and fall of fame.
BACKGROUND:
As a young child, Pietro grew up with his father, Eric Lensherr (Magneto), and his twin sister, Wanda (The Scarlet Witch). Not much was revealed about his home life at this time, but we know that he stayed under Magneto's care until he was around 6 or 7 years old. Magneto had decided that Wanda was much too out of control with her mutant abilities to stay at home any longer, so he packed the twins up in his car and dropped her off at a psychiatric facility. Since Pietro was only a small child at the time, he held a great fear for his sister's abilities and her lack of control. Incidentally, this caused him to not argue Magneto's decision to institutionalize her. It was some time after Wanda's admittance that Pietro had left Magneto's care and went into what was presumably foster care in New York City.
Pietro attended the PS 104 high school, along with his rival, Evan Daniels (Spyke), and starred on the school basketball team. As a player he was a total show off and ball hog and only seemed to be a good sport when he was the one in the spotlight. It was here that Professor Xavier's cerebro picked up on his mutant signature for the first time, but curiously the machine was unable to get a full genetic profile on him. The reason for this, again, was unknown but it is likely that Magneto had something to do with it (in this 'verse he was a genetic scientist and could have somehow cloaked him). Evan also manifested his abilities at this time, so Pietro's competitive streak with him intensified to the point where he began using his powers to steal Evan's money and belongings. These actions later progressed to burglarizing every locker in his school, only to leave Evan to take the blame. Pietro had no guilt or remorse for the fact that Evan had landed in jail for his bad behaviour, and continued on his crime spree through Bayville (home city of the X-Men and the Brotherhood). Later PS 104 was challenged to a basketball game by Evan's new school, Bayville High. The X-Men immediately had Pietro in their sights upon meeting him, and sought to bring him in for framing Evan. A destructive fight ensued on the streets with Pietro causing massive damage to city property and buildings by simply using his speed alone. It took them many attempts, but eventually Spyke had to use his projectile bones to pin him into a brick wall. Pietro was then apprehended and charged for public mischief, and was held in jail until Magneto walked back into his life to bail him out.
Upon his release, Pietro made a deal with Magneto that he would stay in Bayville under Mystique's care. At this time, Mystique was not only the owner of the boarding house where the Brotherhood lived, but was also the disguised principal of Bayville High. Mystique and the Brotherhood were an organized group of delinquent mutants that opposed Professor Xavier's X-Men. The other teens in the house were quite loyal to Mystique for housing and feeding them, but Pietro was the only one brought in under Magneto's order and sometimes served as a double agent. Since he was often frightened and intimidated by his father, Pietro would have no problems spying on Mystique for him when Magneto felt she was up to no good. Despite the teetering loyalty to his team, Pietro did eventually form friendships (albeit shaky ones) with Blob, Toad, Avalanche, and later Boom-Boom.
For months the group spent most of their time committing petty crimes and trouble at their school and around the city. They were known locally as a group of misfits and outsiders, and time and time again their bad behaviour was thwarted by the X-Men. The Brotherhood began to grow increasingly frustrated with their inability to give the X-Men a good fight, and an estranged Mystique felt the same. Their seemingly missing leader came back into their lives with a blast from Pietro's past -- Wanda. The twins had not seen each other in nearly ten years, and Wanda took it personally. She was very bitter and hostile toward her brother, and made it publicly known by violently attacking and berating him. Pietro seemed to feel at least a little remorseful about Wanda's abandonment, but his fear of his father kept him from outwardly showing it. Life in the boarding house was tense afterward, despite the fact that Wanda had helped them win their first clean battle against the X-Men.
Later Magneto formed up another team of more skilled mutants called 'The Acolytes'. This group was formed when Magneto had grown tired of the Brotherhood's failures. Bolivar Trask and SHIELD had begun organizing the Sentinel Program, and Magneto wanted to use his new team as his offense against them. When the Brotherhood and X-Men went head to head with the Acolytes, the first of the Sentinels was released on Bayville and mutants were finally outed to the public. During the battle with the giant robots, Wanda had cornered Magneto in hopes of getting her revenge on him, but Pietro had run in at the last moment to save him from harm's way. From then on he was considered affiliated with the Acolytes, having betrayed the Brotherhood to help serve his father's cause. Although it should be noted that this betrayal most likely occurred due to once again fearing his father's wrath, as later Pietro decided he would rather live with the Brotherhood after his sister briefly left. Wanda was still angry with him for his betrayal when they were reunited again and remained that way until Magneto lured her to his base to erase and replace her memories with new ones.
While Pietro was not particularly happy with Magneto’s choice, he kept the incident to himself due to the fact that his relationship with Wanda had improved drastically after the fact. He and his sister were getting along well without any violent outbursts, and Pietro was able to work back and forth between the Brotherhood and the Acolytes without issue. Magneto gave him the title of new leader of the Brotherhood; it was a position that Pietro was not particularly successful at. Since he had the tendency to act for his own benefit, Pietro had a hard time not being a selfish, bossy brat rather than an effective tactical leader for his team. Therefore, the rest of the Brotherhood tended not to take him seriously, though they followed his orders only when they feared backlash from Magneto.
A few months later Magneto was destroyed by Apocalypse, and only then Quicksilver eased up and began acting more comfortable and natural in his relationships with the Brotherhood. No longer did they take part in fights or battles, nor did they have to fight for their ‘worth’. Pietro’s disdain for his father became very apparent at this time, even so far as chiding Wanda for grieving the man’s death. The relationship with his sister became more of a priority for Pietro after Magneto vanished, and they worked on improving it until the very end of the series.
PERSONALITY:
Pietro’s personality is strong and loud. He has the tendency to be an overbearing, self centered, arrogant jerk and will run his mouth until someone manages to shut it for him. He will talk at anyone he’s given the opportunity to, and most of the time he’s either making fun of them or bragging about himself (he even went so far as bringing four dates to the school dance just to show his friends that he’s better looking and a better partier). Other people’s problems are never a concern for him, nor does he care for emotional and sentimental discussion. After repeatedly running off on his friends and teammates, he always returned and acted as though he held rightful place amongst them and had automatically earned their forgiveness. There’s just not enough time in his day to deal with conflict and annoyances; he’s impatient as hell and always looking for something new to keep himself occupied. Because of this, Pietro does have a great deal of skills and hobbies, as he’s able to learn and practice things very quickly. So despite having little to no interest in being at school, he is highly intelligent.
Under the cocky-little-jerk mask, Pietro is easily intimidated and weak willed. He doesn’t hold onto his morals and beliefs strongly at all and is willing to abandon everything if it means it saves his own ass. This in particular holds true for Wanda and Magneto especially, but even at times for Mystique as she was in a position of authority over him. All three of them were able to use their power to demand obedience from him, and most of the time it worked.
In relation to his comic/616 counterpart, Pietro is a lot younger. At 18 years old, he’s cockier, more rebellious, and mouths off a lot more. Otherwise, he’s quite similar in regards to always bouncing back and forth between the sides of good and evil and friend and foe. He does the right thing for the wrong reasons and has impeccable control over his mutant powers.
CLASS: Pietro is not a hero, but not a villain either. He tends to only look out for himself, and his motivations are usually fuelled by fear, greed, and selfishness. The best description would probably be that of a misguided delinquent; he's gotten in trouble with the law before, but chooses to fight against evil threats like Apocalypse. He would keep his dog tags until he could find himself a better situation to live in -- and most likely he'd find a way to lie and cheat to get that.
SUPERHERO NAME: Quicksilver
ALTER EGO: Pietro Maximoff
POWER: Super speed. While it was never revealed in the show exactly how fast he could go in an actual measured sense, he was shown being so fast that he could run up the side of a skyscraper (faster than gravity) and literally tear concrete off of the ground. His main attacks consist of running in circles around his opponents to the point where they're caught in the center of a tornado. These tornadoes are so effective that they even managed to free him out of a tight telekinetic hold by Jean Grey. The X-Men have had to literally knock him out or pin him to the ground to stop him. Despite all these things, his super speed is pretty basic. In Evolution, Pietro does not have the accelerated healing, metabolism, or aging that he was equipped with in the main comic continuity.
COMMUNITY POST SAMPLE:
You want a hero? You want a hero!? Well I’ll tell you something, metal-ass, you sure picked the right guy! I can get the job done faster than you can blink those freaky little eyes and twice as well as one of those lame X-Geeks! I’ve got style! I’ve got finesse! All the flare and glare and awesome hair on top of being the fastest guy in the whole freaking world!
But it’ll come at a price, you know, I’m not some chump who’s just gonna work for free! I’ve got people demanding my services all up and down Bayville, so don’t think you’re something special just because you have some fancy tech. If my father were still alive, he’d have your tin can butt torn to pieces to get me back! Pieces! You hear me!? So I better have a nice place, some good grub, and look damn good doing it or you can turn around and send me back home! Because if you think that idiot Alvers can keep that rundown pile of firewood functioning without me, you’re wrong.
God. I’m so out of this joint. Check ya later, rust bucket.
THIRD PERSON:
Well he was either right back in New York City, or Wanda was going nuts with her powers again. Pietro wasn’t certain, but at the rate he’d been going lately, either option was totally plausible. Both options were also totally unacceptable and were by no means welcomed! There were important things to be done that day, namely a couple dates and his hair!
But then again there was that jerk in the robot suit, and who the hell did he think he was anyways? Surely he wasn’t some puked up hairball of a residue from Wanda’s powers out to cause him some grief, so what? Some magical fairy-bot of be-my-hero-for-me-please? How lame! The guy should just learn to do it himself and leave Pietro alone. He wasn’t some X-Dork - better than one, actually - so he didn’t waste his time on stupid ‘causes’ and peaceful ‘co-existances’ and other idealist crap. It was bad enough listening to his father spout on and on about having to fight for his race and blah blah blah blahblahblah.
The only thing that would ever get Pietro’s butt out on the street was some newspaper glory. Maybe a newscast or a shiny plaque with his gorgeous face on it. Iron Butt wasn’t getting away with free work, no siree! So in the mean time, Pietro was so hitting the streets and finding a great party or some ladies. There were priorities here and…ooh, Iron Man said something about a comm device, didn’t he? Well, shit, if he wasn’t going to use the piece of junk for hero related crap, he may as well use it to hook up!
Pfft, well at least rust butt was good for something!
