[This is Jet. This is Jet, outside of Iroh and Zuko's teahouse in the wee hours of the morning before sunrise, a long cloth wrapped around his mouth and throat. He has bag slung across his chest and resting across his hip, arm pressed against it to keep it silent as he considers the side of the tea-house ( Read more... )

[The crack and shatter of glass is the very first thing that alerts Zuko, cutting through his sleep. His eyes snap open as he comes awake. He's always been a light sleeper, always picking up on the teeniest of sounds, aware of everything surrounding him. Immediately Zuko bolts out of bed as there's more shattering glass downstairs in the main level of the tea shop, dressed in only a pair of sleeping pants.

His senses are still caught in a sleepy daze but as soon as Zuko rips open his bedroom door, the white-gray fog and all-too familiar smell of fire that has begun to filter upstairs is more than enough to snap him into a fully awake state of mind.

Surprise dissipates into slight panic; their tea shop, their home, it's on fire!]

Uncle!

[Zuko's shouting for his uncle over a shoulder and banging on the wall to get his attention as he hurries to the top of the stairs and squints. The flames seem to have caught on something, smoke is beginning to get everywhere.

No no no no--!]

[Iroh stumbles out of his bedroom, hurriedly pulling on pants as he runs. Later he will curse himself for his idiocy - why did he not take precautions? why did he not set up watch? why didn't he fall asleep with clothes on? - but for now, his main concern is dealing with the fire.

Jet must have done something to the bombs he used; less than a minute passed from the glass first breaking and Iroh making it downstairs, but the flames were already roaring. Controlling this fire would be a challenge, even for him and Zuko.

He grabs one of the table clothes and rips it in half, using his bending to put out the flames on it. He shoves the pieces at Zuko.]

Douse these with water! QUICKLY! Then tie one around your face!

[Jet had meant to leave when the first flames caught. He needed to get the hell out of dodge -- Zuko and Iroh weren't going to be happy, and firebenders were dangerous enough with their own fire, much less when they were surrounded by an entire burning building.

But, for some reason, he couldn't pull his eyes away.

He saw the movement as the two firebenders hurried into the main part of the shop, pulling the cloth around his own mouth down to smile a smile distorted by smoke and thick waves of heat.]

Have fun!

[The shout was loud as he backed away, but he doubted it was enough to reach over the flames and crackle of wood.]

[About to answer his uncle and do as he's told like a good little Fire Nation boy, Zuko stops as he swears to Agni Herself he hears someone else's voice drift through the crackling and popping of the fire. He twists around in time to catch a figure moving back away from the danger zone.

Zuko's first assumption is Jet, the words "But this isn't the end," ringing a bell. Ding ding dingThe anger from earlier flares. And so do the flames ( ... )
