Art 06 • Conceptual Design III

Our first conceptual design this semester involved making a series of pants based on a hardware item, then sewing one of the pants into a garment. I got... this thing. I still don't know what it is.

The pants were designed to be very symmetrical and curved as well as smooth overall, but with a few parts that stuck out. I designed these to serve as high-end loungewear, something one could just throw on but would still look nice in.

Design A is high-waisted with box pleats on the waistband. It has very deep pockets, with cowled facings that connect at the side. There is an invisible zipper and two skirt hooks and eyes on the back, and the hem is bubbled.

Design B is low-waisted and wide-legged with a cuff. Pintucks on the waistband extend down to the pant leg, as do the box pleats in the back.

Design C is a harem-style pant, with a baggier top that is gathered into a tapered section at the bottom. The hem curves to cover the foot slightly. The pockets are also deep, but the edge of the pant is cowled instead of a facing. The outer part of the pocket has pintucks, which are echoed in the back. There is an invisible zipper that extends up into the waistband.

Design D is not high-waisted, just has a large yoke with three box pleats. The two pleats in the back extend to the pant legs. The piecing on the inner leg extends to the cuff, and the cutouts on the side have draped sections. There is an invisible zipper in the back.

Design E is low-waisted and wide-legged, but gathered into cuffs at the bottom. These also include cowl facings on the pocket, as well as cowled patch pockets in the back. There is piecing in the front, but not the back.

Crepeback satin (polyester), elastic, zipper

Design A made into a garment. My only complaint is that the pockets could drape much more, and that when I attached the facings, I hand-sewed them, and the puckers from it show a lot because of the satin. There could probably also be a lot more gathers at the hem. But they're very comfortable to wear around :3
