Here’s a question for SGA fans out there. If the puddle jumpers require someone with the ATA gene to fly them (and this is a point that has been made in several SGA episodes), then how did Ford manage to fly one through the Gate when he escaped in Siege pt 3?

It’s a point that completely escaped me (like the fact that Crichton could understand ( Read more... )

Ford was never given the ATA gene therapy since he was a marine and didn't have any flight training. At least that's only the reason I can think of for soldiers getting the gene therapy like Lorne, Stackhouse, etc..

When Ford "flew" the Jumper out of the room, he technically didn't fly it. Instead the Jumper was already on from Zelenka working on it earlier. There is a since where Ford knocks Zelenka out when he goes into the Jumper. I think. It's been a while since I saw Siege 3. Anyways since the machine was on, he can activate it and command it to go through the Bay and down into the gateroom and out the gate.

So afterwards he bascially just abandoned the Jumper and gated to another world so no one can trace him.

Why I know all this is kind of disconcerting. =P

Oops I mean Markham not Stackhouse... then again Markham was marine too... so I guess whoever has flight training and the ATA gene work on them could fly the Jumper.

Also I meet to say "scene" not "since". It's a little early for me. lol.

Hope that helps!

They do actually sort of mention that the puddle jumpers fly automatically while in atlantis. They commented that Ford couldn't fly it once it went through the gate and that he would have to leave it and then go through the gate again to hide his trail.

Also... nearly everyone was given gene therapy but as Zelenka pointed out in Hot Zone, it only takes in 48% of cases. Ford may or may not have been given the therapy, and if he was, he would have been 1 of the 52%.

Thanks for the info about Ford.

On the Farscape subject, I know that John was given the microbes, so he would have understood what the locals said. But it was a planet without space flight (kinda like Earth) so the locals wouldn't have had the microbes. They should not have been able to understand John or D'Argo, but they did.
