I wrote this after the latest episode of Merlin.  I just need to write something.  And while it's not long, I hope you enjoy reading it.  A part of this came from listening to the song "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis.  I think it would be a great song for Gwen for any vidders out there! ;)

I don't think there are any spoilers for upcoming episodes, only how I imagine one way they could reunite.

Title: Rise
Author: hope27
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Through 4x09.
Summary: Her heart thundered in her chest as the Camelot’s spires rose in the distance before her.
A/N: Written for all those I've discussed this episode with at onceandfutures and camelot_love.  Hang in there.  Things will turn out.

Her heart thundered in her chest as the Camelot’s spires rose in the distance before her.  She never thought she would have looked upon her hometown with such wariness, and yet here she was, perched atop a borrowed mare, ready to ride into the heart of a kingdom she had been told to leave.  To face the man who still held her heart, though battered and bruised where it beat in her chest.

It had been weeks though they stretched before her like years.  She felt older, wearier.  Moving from place to place where no one knew her name nor cared to learn it.

Somehow she had managed to keep moving, keep living.  She knew her heart would never be whole again without him, but vowed to survive.

And when she heard about a plot to take Camelot; a scheme that would kill the man she loved and everything she had held dear, she couldn’t sit still.  Although the fear welled up inside her, the fear of losing him, her home, forever was far greater.

*

Breathe.  She told herself over and over as she entered the gates, sitting rigidly, head held high as she rode toward the place that had burned her heart to ashes.

But instead of crumbling, she would rise.

Of course, he saw her first.  Of course, he would be standing on the steps, talking with Merlin and his Knights.

She tried to keep her heart from flying out of her chest; the pieces so carefully woven back together slowly unraveling once more.

He stood still until she came to stop in front of the steps.  And then he spoke.  One word.  One word that she’d heard in her dreams every night since she’d left.

Her name.
