oh, MAN! this is incredible. i love the outsider perspective on john and the boys, and the way you've caught the un-sayable longing between john and viv. the way we know some of the things john wants to share with viv, and the fact that he realises he can't, that he lives in a different world, now.

at the same time, it's kind of nice to read you writing slash that has, i don't know, a slightly less taboo pairing than, say, john/dean. NOT THAT I'M COMPLAINING ABOUT JOHN/DEAN AT ALL.

anyway, WOW! AWESOMEPANTS!

i have no john icons. what a loser!

Hee. I remember back when you pulled a face at my mention of John/Dean. OH, THOSE WERE THE DAYS.

I do like writing Johnslash, though, without the daddy issues. Which just leaves HOTASS BADASSNESS. I think I need to write more John/W.A.H.

No john icons!!!!1 It's official. You are a loser.

Oh John.

I like this. Old mates. A bond. The sex is so blokey, so matter of fact - as it would be if John. But he has such pain. Great story.

Thank you! Ah yes. I was going to say something about how blokey the Winchesters all are, but really, they're crying and hugging and touching each other's faces every second episode AT LEAST.

Glad you enjoyed this :D

Oh Sam and Dean are just metrosexual sensitive new age guys. They both have a skin care regime, Dean gets his nails buffed and Sam does pilates. I suspect Dean reads Stepahnie Dowrick and Sam watches Dr Phil.

John - now he's a bloke you can blow and have a beer with.

I love the smells and textures and visceral sensations. The whole palpable roadhouse-diner-sunset-carinthedarkscenario is very evocative for me. And the manly manness of them. There's lots of little specific bits that gave me delight. Thank you :)

I don't have John icon either :/

I love the way that your John's so internal that, unless it's a story from his perspective, we get almost nothing of him in your fics except through the ways those around him respond to him. So here we've got Dean's tiny scowly protectiveness, and Sam's adorable baby demands, and all the things Viv thinks and feels about the John then and the John now. And so even if we never 'meet' John completely, we know that these people love him, and so we begin to understand all of them at once.

I love the way you've built Viv's version of the world here, too; not quite the same America as Sam and Dean will come to know, but one their father's been a part of.

John! Man! Brain breaking now! lilacsigil February 14 2007, 10:49:23 UTC
What I liked best about this was that John had something for himself, if only for a moment - a friend. I really liked the equating of their post-coital rush of endorphins with the feelings after surviving violence - especially as much of their previous contact must have been a mixing of the two.

And the Winchesters are terribly blokey (though Sam occasionally breaks free) - just not so much around each other. Even baby!Dean is tough and defensive when an outsider shows up.
