My son is almost four and we watched The Iron Giant for the first time with him and his sister last week-end. He has been infatuated with rockets and outer space and robots practically since birth and just fell in love with the show. He was introduced a little to Superman not to long ago so he knew who Hogarth was talking about in the movie and completely 'got it' when the I.G. slapped that big metal 'S' on his chest as well as the end.
It was one of the first DVDs we bought, and my three boys all loved it. It is a sign of a good story when a DVD endures and its message remains relevant.
I agree. I don't really remember the movie doing big business here at the box office when it first came out. Which is sad and strange because it is such a gem and enjoyable for kids and their parents alike. Everyone I know that has seen it has loved it.
