Crawls out from under her rock...

I know that I promised that I would be posting daily now that my SO and I are traveling, but like most of my good intentions it ends up on the wayside for one reason or another. I was tired, the computer was under a million layers of things in the car, Skyrim came out, etc. So here is my attempt to update you with everything that has happened...

Let's talk about just home much moving sucks. I've done it twice in one year now (moving first from my little apartment to a bigger one that could hold all my SO and my stuff and now moving all the stuff that we don't need while traveling to his parents who have been so kind as to store our combined stuff). Some how you never have enough boxes. Never. And some how you always have 3 times the amount of things you thought you did (yes, I am using the word stuff too many times, but oh well). And the cleaning. So much cleaning. And my SO has this super power thanks to the type of work he does that turns the bathtub black and bleach can't even make it white again. I had to let it soak overnight and it was grey by the time we left. I've just come to the conclusion that I hate moving with the passion of a thousand suns.

The trip itself was fun. We got a late start because we finished moving around 3AM and I wanted my SO to get some sleep before hitting the road. He also almost took out a buck on the last trip back to his parents house, so I wanted to make sure it was light when we left. I love road trips, a by-product of the fact that from the ages of 1-4 I was raised by my retired Grandparents who decided that my early education would consist of seeing all the places that are neat in America via a giant RV.

It took us 2 days to make it from Wisconsin to Virginia. We went through Chicago, which I will never ever do again. It was neat to see the metro that went down the middle of the highway and to see the great lakes as we drove by, but we almost wrecked twice because of other drives and once we even burned rubber to get out of this car's way. It was beyond scary. o.0 After we hit Indiana it was smooth sailing. My SO has never really been outside of Wisconsin for more than like an hour, so he was flabbergasted at just how flat Indiana was and it was really neat to see the windmills at night all lit up. We stopped in Columbus and saw my Dad and youngest sister. It was a real treat as I hadn't seen him since I was 13.

The drive through Kentucky and West Virginia nearly brought tears to my eyes. I spent a couple of my younger years in the South and driving through there was like coming home. I can think of no other way to describe it. The trees, the smells, the heavy feeling of history, all of it just moves me in a way that defies explanation. It was also a lot of fun to watch Dustin's face as he saw the Appalachians for the first time. It took him forever to realize just how high up we were and when he got to see that first valley... It was worth the trip right there even if he never got to work.

So what have we done since being in Virginia? Not a lot. Skyrim came out and I had the foresight to bring the PS3, so lots of time devoted to the hoarding of useless junk and being a mad scientist in the alchemy lab. But we've managed to make time to get all our Christmas shopping done and lots of cuddle time at night. We went to Virginia Beach and my SO got to see the ocean for the first time. It was too cold for swimming but he waded a little bit before we found a giant jellyfish washed up on shore. They had the beach set up for a Christmas walk, though the weather has consistently been warmer than Wisconsin for this time of year and he has a hard time believing it's December. We went to Busch Gardens Williamsburg because they are doing a Christmas theme thing and it was a lot of fun. We got to see kissy penguins and ride rollercosters. It's been a lot of fun.
