ramblings on moving...

If we buy Melanlie's metro we will be a 2 car family! If we are a 2 car family we can live anywhere we want, instead of staying on the Marta lines. YEY! Cheaper rent and being closer to most of our friends. We were thinking about the Vinnings area if we get an apartment. We aren't totally against a house in The Hood but it would have to be the ( Read more... )

Chamblee/Doraville would probably be cheaper, but Smryna/Vinnings is closer to your extended family & I don't think it would be that much more. I'd say look at all of the locations & just compare prices & school systems. Err, well, you mention apartment or renting, then buying a house. So, you may not need to think about the school if you'd be buying a house somewhere else before Theo would start school.

both areas are about the same price as far as apartments go... We haven't decided the location of the house yet.. or Theo's schools.. we were tossing around the idea of privet school or homeschool

well, homeschooling would mean he wouldn't learn social skills & how to interact with other kids. Let's just say, I have a friend that was, & uhhh... Well, she's 23 & still hasn't graduated & acts like she's 12. Plus, she isn't well in a social environment. You may have meet her. She's my friend that everyone thought was like 12 or 14 (b/c of her looks) but she's really in her 20's.

socialize that kid! lafemmedesfemme July 20 2005, 16:50:40 UTC
ooh, you said the "s" word!

seriously, though-- basing your ideas of homeschooling on your one friend who probably had emotional problems anyway without really researching what homeschooling entails is not cool at all.

before i go off on a complete rant please, please google "socialize homeschool" and learn that homeschooled kids actually have more time and opportunity to learn social skills than institutionally schooled children, and consistently have more poise and do better in social situations than children that are cooped up day after day with other children who were born in the same year that they were.

(oops, that turned into a rant, didn't it? ;-) )

really, of all the misconceptions that abound about homeschooling, the socialization "issue" is the one that chaps my hide the most. weren't you ever told by a teacher that you weren't in class to socialize, young lady?! :-)

and yes, i plan on homeschooling.

Try East Cobb Schools... Ewan will be attending Eastvalley Elem. and they rated at a 95% passing or better in their standardized tests. We live in a 3BR/2.5BA townhouse-style apartment (1560 Sq ft) in Stonemill of East Cobb, but rent isn't under $700. But, they do have 2BRs in our complex for $699 and across the street in Signature Place for $650. Stonemill is off of Delk behind Mink's package store and Signature Place is right off of Powers Ferry at Terrell Mill, about 15 min from the hood.

Good luck on finding a private school, as I haven't found a non-religion based one I can afford yet, with tuition starting at around 10Gs a semester. But then, there are grants but unfortunately, we make too much money to qualify and not enough to pay for it.

Also,
www.cobb.k12.ga.us will give you a breakdown for each Cobb Cty School as far as ethnic diversity, test scores, and most schools have their own web sites! Good luck!

smyrna/vinings! I live near windy hill and cobb parkway. Michael works downtown. It is in unincorporated symyrna and close to the atlanta city limits. Our 2br/2ba apartment is $725 a month. The neighborhood is safe.

And by the way, I substitute teach for cobb county. I can give you some good hints on the good schools.
