Spring training starts tomorrow.
Tampa Bay has lost its collective mind; they've taken Manny Ramirez. The Rays club has been so smart about the way they run things since they changed their name, I never would have figured they'd do something like that. Well, at least they're not dumb enough to put him in the field... They've taken Johnny Damon, too. He's got a mohawk. I'm not sure why, he's only going to put a cap/helmet on it. At least when he was doing the whole Jesus look with the Sox you could see it with the uniform on. I guess he just got sick of New York and their hair regulations?
He was talking to the media, going on about "Guys like Manny and I, who know how to win"... I'm like, "Dude, Manny doesn't remember how to win. He doesn't remember how to work hard, or pull his weight, or not take drugs. Speak for your own damn self." And it's me, not I. Maybe the Rays figure with Damon there Manny will revert to his pre-World Series semi-professional self, I dunno.
Oh well. Their mistake.
Vlad's with the Orioles now. He's all trim and fit! I mean, he was fit before but he was still a big fella and didn't move so fast. XD He's definitely slimmed down. I guess he's back to being a Ranger killer then... I'm going to miss him.
Nobody's made an offer on Mike.
He's expected to report with the rest of the guys tomorrow. He's on our roster as DH still. Ian says he'll be there. I believe Ian.
I'm glad we're not losing him in the end, but I feel awful for him. I hope they get this thing sorted and Mike back on the field. He deserves so much better than what Jon Daniels handed him after last season. Let Beltre be the damn DH... it's not like he's going to be around next season anyway. We never keep our big-name acquisitions more than a year. Ever. We trade them for young/developing talent either in the mid-season trades or over the winter. I don't know who's stupid enough to think things will magically be different this time, but I'm sure not.
(What really pisses me off about the whole affair is Padilla. Vicente freakin' Padilla, who can't go a game without hitting at least one batter. Who has been that way since forever. Undisciplined, surly, and a total diva, utterly convinced of his own speshulness and completely unwilling to take advice or coaching of any sort. Jon Daniels hung onto this gem of a pitcher for years, paying a ridiculously high salary to him, while he sunk game after game after game after game for us. For years. He holds onto the worst pitcher in baseball against all good sense, for that long, and he's going to do Mike like he did? Our team captain and one of our best guys? Seriously?)
