My latest Eric Cal fic installment:

Calleigh entered the Crime Lab at noon. In all the years she’d worked in Miami Dade County, they had never had a Christmas party there. Now, this was going to be interesting.

Underneath her arm, she carried Eric’s present. Luckily, she had drawn his name, although she felt there was something fishy in it. When Ryan had held out the bowl to draw names he’d acted rather nervous.
Ah, who cared how it happened as long as she had gotten the name she wanted. She felt she knew Eric better then she did everyone else. One would guess so; she practically studied his every move.

What Calleigh found awaiting her wasn’t what she expected. Horatio had the place entirely done over: wreaths, garland, mistletoes, lights, the works-what had gotten into him this year? It was probably the whole ‘supposed to be secret, but everyone knows’ relationship he was having with Rick.

“I said your ribbon is crooked!” Eric was calling up to Horatio, who stood on a ladder over the elevator doors.

Calleigh smiled and gave Eric a wink. He gave a big smile back, looking like a schoolboy, before having to re-level the ladder so Horatio wouldn’t fall off.

“I’m getting light headed up here. God, I hate ladders-stupid,” Horatio mumbled.

Calleigh stood next to Eric while Rick rushed over. Everyone in the lab knew about Horatio and Rick. Maybe someday they’d stop trying to act like nemesis’ and cuddle or something.

“Having fun?” Calleigh asked Eric.

She then noticed that he was wearing the nice tight shirt she had gotten him for his birthday earlier that year. It was touching that he wore it now, since it made him itch. She had seen him looking uncomfortable in it. Aside from that, he looked mighty fine.

Eric rolled his eyes and steadied the ladder.

“Horatio, you want me to do it?” Rick was saying.

Horatio wiped his hand across this brow and examined it.

“Well, shave my poodle. I’m sweating!” he laughed.

Rick rolled his mouth around inside his mouth and pulled at Horatio’s pants leg.

“Get your tush down here before you fall,” Rick ordered.

Eric and Calleigh exchanged smiles. They knew that his words had been a slip of the tongue. Now if Horatio wanted to keep his reputation he had to fire back. Oddly, though he just laughed and stepped down. Maybe he was just too stupefied by his own sweat.

“I like your shirt,” Calleigh grinned.

Eric and she walked to the tree. Ryan was trying to help Frank fix the lights that weren’t working at all.

“Let’s just go buy some new ones, this is retarded,” Frank growled, angrily pulling a Santa hat from his head and slinging it at Ryan.

“Hey don’t blame it on me. What do you expect, if these lights belong to H then they’ve to be like…old,” Ryan scowled.

Frank pursed his lips and looked angrily at Horatio who was still laughing at his hand while Rick pats him on the back.

“One of these days, I’m gonna be the head honcho round here. Won’t take any orders from Mr. Fireball over there,” Frank glowered.

Calleigh placed the gift-wrapped box under the leaning tree. It had looked a lot better a week ago, before Rick and Horatio got into a catfight. The details were dim but she did remember that they had been arguing over who walked the ‘coolest.’

After which Alexx had walked into the hall, looked disapprovingly at the mess, and said:
“Boy, this place gets more like a soap everyday.”
