homeownership! (intro, originals, the main floor)

As I've mentioned, Chris and I recently bought our first house. It was built in 1920, and is a beautiful house with a lot of work that needs to be done. I plan on documenting all our work, just as a kind of digital scrapbook. However, i will cut everything so you don't have to deal with lots of images if you don't want to! :)

Whoever owned the house before us had a very... kitschy (and not in a good way) style. Here's what we moved into:

This is our original sunporch.

our plan: Chris and I would like to build a bench along each long side, and a sort of folding table to go on the short wall. I'm hoping to draft helicalsatyr to help, as she has skill with building furniture.

This is the original kitchen, part 1.

this is the rest of it.

our plan: Obviously, the wallpaper has to go. We then plan to paint the part that is currently white, a sort of sage green, or a dark red. The part that is currently red will be a pale yellow. The sink stays, as will the fridge. We're inheriting a stove from chris's parents.

Someday, we plan to push out the sink wall and make a kitchen expansion, that will be mad crazy cool.

this is the diningroom passthrough. The previous owners took the shelf with them.
our plan: This room is going to be CLASSY. First, the carpet (a seafoam green) will go. Under it is this lovely light-cherry hardwood. Then, we'll add a chair rail of similar wood around the wall. Below the chair rail will be a dark red. Above will be a pale yellow.
There's a high shelf along one wall, with cool curly brackets under it. The brackets will be painted gold, and the shelf will be back in the dark red. I'll add more original pictures later.

this is chris's office.

the rest of chris's office.

our plan:Very little will be done with this. the carpet is coming up, but other than that, we're leaving it.

The original living room. This room is fucking DIRTY. the walls are GREY. Filthy!
our plan:the walls will be painted a sage green, to bring out the greens in the seafoam carpet, that is staying (for now, at least). The lace curtians are down, to be replaced with "creamy yellow" curtians, perhaps with a green edged valance.... Depends on what i can make. I'm sewing.
