I always thought Bruxism sounded like a religion or a political ideology instead of something you do with your teeth. "You damn infernal Bruxist, you!" *shakes clenched fist* heheheh
Yeah totally. I have TMJ, but I was reading about side effects of anti-depressants. Which, if you are considering having a baby, well reading that WILL depress you... Damn, if I ever do the baby thing it's gonna be rough. Anyways, they mention Bruxism as a side effect...and I agree it's one of those words that should mean something else. Marxism...Bruxism...he he
I recently thought I had an ear infection. Went to my ENT doc and he actually diagnosed it as TMJ, not an infection. Gave me a printed FAQ sheet w/ recommendations on where to aquire mouth guards to wear at night (Sexy!). I suspect this may be hereditary- while I don't grind my teeth per se, (none of my lovers have ever noticed) I do know for sure that I clench my jaw at night & sometimes during the day. Doc says to relax the jaw- it's actually very zen and relaxing overall. ;-) Anyway, my Dad used to fall asleep drunk on the couch and grind his teeth like mad while I was trying pay attention the weather report.
So, now we're in the same club. We oughtta have little lapel pins with grinding dentures on 'em or something. ;-)
Yeah, my cheeks and ear areas are sore/inflammed all the time. Some more than others. I sleep with a mouthguard and have for over ten years now. Mine started up after a car accident. You can now get smaller mouthguards at the sporting goods shops for cheap and you can use a dremel tool to make them smaller. I have had mine made by my dentist, but they are expensive and insurance won't cover it- fyi.
