I think the City reached new levels of weird yesterday.  I was--and I'm not even joking--a brain in a jar.  And I could see, which was neat, and I think I was connected to the network since I could see posts, but I never did figure out how to post myself.  I was so, so glad to have my body back at midnight.  It's a step up from having heads cut off ( Read more... )

was a child prodigy, after the curses, distract me please, there's no angst here, ducks ducks ducks

I had an antenna in my head. I was connected up to some other people and we were doing some really groovy drumming with our minds.

Try the oboe.

The oboe. Why the oboe?

I'm not really sure, but it was far out. We were kind of sharing thoughts too, but just a little bit.

Cuz it sounds duck-like?

That sounds weird... sharing your brain, even if it's just a little bit of it. I don't think I'd like it much.

It kind of does! I don't know how to play, though.

I was, yeah. Sort of...broken but I was one. Um...sort of why I sort of...um...unquit. I'm back smokin' again. Couldn't cope with both things. I don't think the City's really con....don't think it works too well 'ere.

But...brain in a jar? No wonder I couldn't find you. Well...cos I were broken too but I'm glad you're back t'you.

Your quitting quitting already? But you just started quitting a few days ago! Maybe it'll be easier if you try it a second time?

Yeah... I was kind of immobile. Or maybe I could move, since there was all of this stuff hooked up to the jar, but I couldn't figure it out in a day. That curse was too complicated.

I'm glad you're back to being you, too.

Not sure it will be, cos I know what I'm gettin' into now. I think I'd rather risk th' lung rot than go through all that again.

Yeah, definitely. Think I like the less complicated curses better.

That's--it's okay, since it's your choice to make.

...How'd you like being an otter?

Most things are a step up from having heads cut off, I think.

I guess that goes without saying, doesn't it? But this wasn't as bad as it could've been, since no one died.

...Which is sad. People shouldn't have to die for a curse to be really bad.

Does that happen often? People ending up dead because of...curses?

Not very often, fortunately. It does happen, though, and it's awful when it does.

I'm sorry. Have I talked to you before?

Not on the violin. I'll take the radio down and see what they think of "Aqualung."

You sound like you've had some personal experiences with foul waterfowl, James.
