I've got a doll made from one of those old liquid soap bottles.
I see them in thrift stores occationally, but I haven't decided if I really want to collect them or not, they're kind of ugly.

Today my daughter (she's 10), and her two little friends were spending the day at my house. They started to complain they were bored after an hour, so we hopped in the car and went to the craft store. First thing they picked out was a big bag of mixed buttons, then child sized aprons, some glue, and some fabric paint. They sat at the table for hours gluing buttons on their aprons. They would hold up their buttons and point out the pretty features that were on them, and carefully glue them down. They look so pretty! As I was watching and listening to them, your post came to mind about your button box. Thought you would like to know that little girls still love buttons.
