The United States of America is all about equality. All men are created equal, and that sort of thing. But do all teenagers have an equal chance to go to college

paper due tomorrow? it's a good one. (note: schools in the Midwest usually only accept the ACT; it's weird like that over here. I took both.)
anecdote not being datum, y0, but agreed that admissions tests are not measuring what one actually does in school. I'm one of those freaks who does well on tests but had crappy grades. (National Merit Scholar here. Dropped out of college in 2nd year. Sure, I have a degree now....)
No, actually, I just wrote this for the hell of it. I was kinda pissed and wanted to get it out, so. Ahah.
That's good for you, though. I don't test very well (especially in math, oy vey), so that probably adds to my personal dislike of the SATs. (Also, I had to take the MCAS--Massachusetts standardized tests--in at least one subject for seven straight years. That probably doesn't help.)
Excellent essay! And maybe I'm just being a dinosaur, but perhaps they should go back to the way it was when I was taking SATs -- no writing test, just the math and English sections...
Thanks! And nah, it was that way for quite a while, I think. But I have no objection to the essay itself... just the way it's graded. Honestly, I got a 6/12 on a practice essay because, even though all the technical aspects were quite up to par--which is what they say they're looking for--I didn't pick a "clear enough" opinion. I had a very clear opinion--I just wrote about my own, not one of the two options they used to compose the question. Blargh.
this is awesome. I did fairly well on the SATs and I still think they suck. Seriously if you're not a good test taker you're screwed. On a cool note SAT scores are now optional in applying to Assumption College. Of course this couldn't have happened like three years ago haha
