Hi guys! This is my first post here. I'm currently in the market for an eventer, but my budget is fairly small, so I'm basically looking at prospects. This guy is 6 years old, with basic wtc and some leg yeilding. He has jumped 3' but has only jumped a hadful of times. His butt looks a little slopey to me, but maybe he's just out of shape. Let me ( Read more... )

I'd like to see how he puts himself together to jump. I think he looks good... the slope could be muscled up into a nice spring board for jumping. I like the slightly shorter back... easier to package, but seems to lengthen well at the trot, so he's not all stuck.
Wow, I'm not very descriptive today.
If he didn't work out as an event horse, he looks like a horse you could definately sell, pretty handsome.

he looks good! I'd definitely like to see him jump and see how much power he gets -- bigger horses are sometimes just thrusters - they superman over the jump with no form because they are strong enough to clear without trying :P but others? can be VERY impresive! good luck :)

Thank you. =] It says online he's only 15.2, so he's not too huge I guess, he just looks big, especially in the first one! I wish she had some of him jumping, too. I'll have one of my parents take more when I go try him out, and post those here and in ridercritique.

conformationally he's all over the place. his head is too big, his front legs come too far underneath him (you can tell he can't go out very far in the pic of him trotting), his neck is HUGE and his butt is small -- so much so that he looks like he could tip over.

BUT.

put some work into that little butt of his and he might just turn out alright. i LOVE his face, and i actually really love the way he's put together-- almost kind of spanish, like an andalusian.. just a little sportier. once you've got some muscle in that butt he should be a little powerhouse.

you might run into problems with him clearing fences with his legs set so far back, though, he might not be able to tuck very well but i'd have to see a pic of him jumping. you never know.

correcting myself-- in that last pic it looks like his legs aren't set that far back, maybe it was just the way he was standing in the second pic.

Yeah, he's an andalusian cross. I really wish they had a pic of him jumping! I noticed that in the second one too. He does have very big shoulders! But the line from the point of his shoulder to his...er, that joint where the leg actually starts is pretty long and I heard at a conformation clinic that that means they can have a long stride, so maybe he just needs more work!

On second thought, he does have a fairly steep shoulder, which sort of contradicts the lenght from the point of his shoulder to his leg.

he's gorgeous, really.. just wish to see more muscling on his hind quarters but that'll fill in with work!

He doesn't look that off balance, conformtationally, to me. Seems roughly in proportion, but you really need better pictures.

Andy cross? Mmmmm. *steals* I love Andys.

I know someone who events with a full Andy. :D
