Skinny Butt

Apr 11, 2006 15:46

I took some photos of my Arab gelding today. He has been out of work all winter and has lost a bit of muscle. This confo shot is going to be the "before" pic and I will take another one in the fall after a summer of hard work.

This doesn't do him much justice.

Oo, I like heavier built Arabs (not a constructive comment, I know, but I'm glad to see one!).

Thanks. I really am a fan of the more sport-horse type Arabs vs. the delicate halter types. My first horse was even "heavier" than this guy, he was often mistaken for a Morgan.

he's so dark and the daylight is really poor, its hard to judge, but all his angles and proportions look good.

Thanks, it was about to rain when these were taken, that's why it's so dark.

Oooh, what a cutie! My horse looks similar (including the skinny butt from not being in work). He looks fairly well put together overall.

He is really cute, he looks pretty well put together. He's a nice mover. What's his breeding?

When I look through his pedigree I don't see many big names, but he is mostly Egyptian.

His hind legs are built a bit far out behind him, which will provide a challenge for collection and therefore higher jumping and dressage. I'm having the same problem with a horse I'm looking at right now! But depending on what you want to do with him it may not not even be an issue, and working on that butt will definately help him to get his hind legs tracking up! He's pretty solid, but he sure does need muscle. Good luck!

Most Arabs have their hind end built like this. I don't think it will cause much of a problem for us, but it is often cited as a reason Arabs don't make good dressage horses (pffft!).
Thanks for your comments.
