Hey guys. I posted this horse yesterday for critique but the photo I had was horrible. Here are some better photos. I actually quite like his build. He's a little fine boned for my liking and it looks like he might toe out ever so sightly but I think he's worth a look. Horse shopping is so much fun ( Read more... )

The way he's standing in the second picture is not flattering at all. It really doesn't lend itself for confromation critque much. However, it does look like he may be stifle high. It may limit his ability to collect and push off his hindquarters as he progresses in his training. But it certiantly isn't stopping him from jumping (imo) very nicely in the top picture.

It's hard to tell from the photos, but I would take a good look at his feet if you go and see him. If he is a little toe-out or toe-in it isn't a big deal, but do check to see where the deviation originates (ie. from his sholder or much lower down at his pastern). I do like his sholder angle. I agree with the first commenter in that the second picture isn't great-- he almost looks calf kneed, which is horrible conformation for jumping. That will be something else to check!

if he was calf kneed his cannons would be sloping forward from the knee to the fetlock which they clearly aren't. if anything he looks a little over at the knee but it might just be the way he's standing because he is standing awkwardly in that photo.

No time to critique (or even take a good look), but I like the L.A. Baltic ponies, personality wise

For a fine-ish horse, he looks pretty sturdy. I like sturdy :) Makes you feel like you've got something in front of you when jumping, etc. I'm not sure what you're buying him to do? I have a hard time keeping track of who posts what :)

I still don't like his looks. His legs are iffy, his neck is still short, he still has no throatlatch area, and in the picture where he is collected up, he looks heavy on the forehand. Is that a martingale? Also, is it just me, but why are the frontal photos of him never really head on? Makes me wonder if he's offset at the knee.. also maybe its just me again, but he looks to be narrow in the shoulder. He seems like a really large horse to be supported on such a narrow base.

I like the chestnut horse you posted much much better.
