The lovely Minnie

This is Minnie, my friend's mare I ride. She's 24, 15 hands, registered TB, never raced. At 5 or 6, she was being prepared for showing in Small Conformation Hunters when she suffered a career-ending injury. She is sound enough for light work, though she sometimes needs Bute. Working her helps her keep weight on, and keep her sane, as she's ( Read more... )

I think she's a pretty well put together mare. I love her shoulder!! Her legs look straight too. She looks like she would've been a pretty decent jumper if it hadn't been for her injury:P Overall, I REALLY like her:)

That is good to hear :) Her owner also thinks very highly of her. I think it's a shame that she was never bred, because she's such a nice mare. But her owner and owner's mom (who've had her since she was a baby) were just not ever equipped to raise a foal. This is one of those rare cases where "I can't ride her, so maybe I'll breed her" would have been OK. Her injury had nothing to do with her conformation; she got stuck under a fence and ruined one of her hocks.

She *loves* to jump, but really isn't supposed to because it makes her too sore. I've taken her over a few tiny crossrails and the occasional log or tree branch across a trail. She's a bit "hot" as a jumper, but mostly because she just doesn't get to do it that often.

I bet she would've had some NICE babies...I would've totally bred her, but I can understand about not being in the position to do so:P That sucks about her injury, those are the worst, the freak accidents that cut short a promising career:(

she's a bit thin and under muscled... her whithers are higher than her croup, but other than that she looks nice :)

yes, she's skinny :( She's in the process of having her grain/senior feed upped. I was riding her an average of twice a week until she went lame in late August, and she was getting some muscles, but these photos are from yesterday, which was the first time I rode her since then. She keeps more easily when she's being ridden. Before I started riding her late last year, she pretty much stood around for 10 years, and no one but me is riding her, sigh. Her owner and owner's daughter both have nice eventers that they can *do* things with.

Those withers are a pain, but typical of older TBs... I do give her some leeway just on account of her age and circumstances.

She's gorgeous. Also so sad about her injury, but great that she's this healthy at her age. Glad to hear she's still getting work and good luck putting some weight on her!

She is such a lovely horse... The injury was just one of those stupid things that happens; she fell and got trapped under a fence (a pasture fence, not a jump.)

The work really helps her keep her weight up, and she'll also do better once she has her buddy Trump back with her. She's rather herdbound and for the last 8 weeks, her "herd" has been 5 pigs who she doesn't like very much!
