OK, so most of you probably also read equestrian, but I decided to just keep this post in a smaller community ( Read more... )

First photo - is the ground slightly sloping? ANyway, she still looks like her hindquarter is either even with, or just slightly lower than her wither, which is a good thing. However, her shoulder and hip are a lot straighter than I like, and especially in a breed like this. She does not have much depth of hindquarter (you know, that triangle that goes from the hip to the point of the butt to the top of the tarsus?) Anyway, that's the most offensive thing I see about her. A straight hip is going to make her less likely to step under herself or extend her gaits, but with the right excercises and with adequate warm-ups and stretching exercises, you can work on that with her and at least keep her supple and flexible.

She's pretty cute otherwise. Looks a little less "typey" than I prefer for a Morgan, but then again I usually prefer the more classic Morgans to the new morgans anyway.

yes, the ground is sloping upwards. But her hindquarters and withers are about even.

her movement is actually quite good, and well within what I need for my purposes (lower-level stuff... I cannot imagine riding above 1st level in dressage or Beginner Novice eventing.)

the Morgan type or lack thereof is odd. Her parents are both more typey than she is, especially her dam.

In person, Teh Pretty is really overwhelming, which is why I had Joc (trainer) with me when we went to look at her. Her breeders still own her, but they are really too large for her, and they have a palomino Morgan colt who may mature at 16 hands (one hand more than her) and is way more substantially built. Joc really liked her sire for his quietness and nice movement.

i think she's very pretty, who doesn't like a palomino?

to me, nothing really sticks out. she looks very well balanced except i'd like to see more hip.

anyways, PLEASEEEEE do not take this the wrong way, but I've been watching your posts from Equestrian as well, why the need to have morgan as opposed to any other horse??

It's so odd how she looks in person compared to these photos. But I think this was before she was jumping at all, so her muscles are a bit different now.

And I don't *need* to have a Morgan at all. They were just suggested to me by several people as a possible good fit. So I figured I would start my search there, and if I didn't find something suitable within a few months, I'd expand.

And actually, you know, I was just about getting to the point of giving up on Morgans when this one showed up. In fact I'd inquired about a couple of horses of other breeds. I'd met some very sweet Morgans but they were all "projects." Either very green or retirees from the Class A Morgan shows in need of a lot of retraining.

Super cute little girl with lots of potential, in my opinion. As someone else mentioned, her neck is quite thick at the base, but her throatlatch is nicely refined and she's got nice muscling. A little straighter in the shoulder and hip than I'd like, but good solid-looking legs and overall a sturdy build. My gelding toes in somewhat in the front, and wears boots all around (mainly because he's a big stupid clod), but he can jump the moon and any soundness problems he has have come from the fact that he's a big stupid clod. With correct trimming and shoeing, it may never be a problem.

i ADORE morgans. my care pony at school is a morgan (mostly all we have here anyway... UConn breeds morgans)

on that note, she's cute. not typey (as we all notice) but she looks cute (for lack of a better vocab word :P). her shoulder is straighter than i like, but it's not necessarily a problem for lower levels as long as her movement is nice and her shoulder swings freely. oh and i'd like to see she develop a stronger top line, but that will come with time and effort.

i like her. a horse of colour AND a morgan.
