I had a sense of that. Sometimes when Fugly mentions "nests" I wonder if that's what she's talking about. When he shapes up in the summer it gets a bit better but I guess if that's the most major thing, I can deal with it! I still think he's gorgeous haha. Thanks for your input :)
Actually, there are a number of minor things besides the heels; capped elbow, too-straight shoulder, neck is too short for the rest of him, and upside down. That may improve with work, but you can still see the tendency for the neck to be upside down (due to the huge wither) even in the trotting pic, where he is obviously better muscled. He looks like he does not have a very long gait, but perhaps it's just how he looks in that one pic. Hindquarter is nice though.
Yeah he does have very large withers, and that seems to be the root of a lot of his conformational issues. Those are some really good points (thanks!). I didn't even know "capped elbow" is a conformational fault.
I don't see what you mean by he doesn't have a very long gait...he is tracking up in this photo and he usually over tracks, much to the dismay of our farrier who keeps having to put his front shoes back on!
I've dug up a few more trotting photos where he's moving out:
they are very frustrating. he has horrible feet all around. we've put him on $50/tub hoof supplements, used hoof conditioners twice daily, and had the farrier pull every trick in the book to make them grow but they really don't grow at all.

But these are small quibbles for what seems to me to be a conformationally sound, quality horse.
Enjoy him, he is lovely!
