Good Omens

I've only read one other novel by him and I didn't like that one at all.

the first Pratchett i read was GOOD OMENS. i was familiar with Neil Gaiman's work from THE SANDMAN comic book series, so i picked up GOOD OMENS and LOVED it. then, i started on the Discworld series to see what Pratchett was like on his own. pretty much all the Discworld books can be read in any order. the first Discworld book is THE COLOUR OF MAGIC if you want to start at the beginning. check out the wikipedia entry for Discworld for a little background on the series and main characters.

Robert can go on at length, I'd recommend talking to him. But you might like to start with Colour of Magic, since it was the first. After that, I don't know that it matters at all.

When you get back to town, I can lend you some - he's one of my favorite authors. I highly commend Night Watch.

I always ask this question of my friends and have asked it several times because I keep forgetting. People usually say start at the beginning because his early stuff was a bit eh and basically it just gets better from there, so it's better to do that and go for the good stuff then head to the bad stuff. Good Omens I've read and I've also read Small Gods, which isn't affiliated with any of the particular series but is also very good.
