My last Scarlet's Well "tour" (1 gig, albeit a festival). We played at PopRevo in
Aarhus, Denmark
which happens to be a familiar haunt for me as my uncle and his family live there - we even got to meet up for a civilised coffee. It was all slightly surreal for me as I associate Aarhus with being small, going to Legoland, and playing on those little postcard-sized handheld computer games people had in the 80s/90s.
My aunt asked me what the "revolution" in PopRevolution was. It was a good question. Why do people think that indie guitar music is somehow intrinsically revolutionary?
It was a one-off SW lineup incl. All-Knowing Peter of the Low Edges. Mr Momtchiloff obligingly changed his name to Pedro for the duration so there would be no confusion. The lovely Would-Be-Goods were also travelling with us, of course.
Far be it from me to perpetuate any stereotypes, but have you ever noticed that girl drummers seem much happier than boy drummers onstage?
We had pretty much a full day and a half to explore Aarhus; the best part was visiting the Botanic Gardens glass house, which was full of enormous and fearless butterflies, sensitive plants, coffee and cinnamon trees (?), giant cacti, and a big grey parrot that could imitate phone and text message sounds perfectly.
(the sign says "mind your fingers")
Cropped trousers are called "knickers" in Denmark (and, we later learned, also in parts of America - presumably to distinguish them from "pants").
At Aarhus airport on the way home, the departures lounge came with its very own "garden of mythology".
(Lots of slightly sad cod-philosophising deleted here.)
