So, most people have already read the
last two guides by now. I thought I'd get to updating them a little, so here goes yet another guide.
So you're stuck in The City. Part 1
First off, yes, that's really its name. "The City". It's never been given a real name, so people generally refer to it as such.
Like most people, your first reaction most likely included two questions: "Where am I?" and "How do I get home?" In the easiest possible way to explain it, The City is another world. And if you understand the term, it's a nexus. There are links between your world and this place, but they are generally one way.
Yes, that means you're now trapped here.
But no, that doesn't necessarily mean forever.
It is still possible to find an exit from The City, but it's difficult. The harder you search for one, the less likely it is to appear. As well as that, there seems to be a high probability that you'll return home, only to be later drawn back into The City again. However, there is no certainty that you'll remember this place when you do return.
By now, you may have noticed a certain ticking reaching you. Well, that's a permanent feature of this place, courtesy of a clock mechanism beneath The City, which is linked to the carousel in the centre. What's the point of it? The clock is supposedly counting down the time to the apocalypse. Though no one has actual proof of this as of yet. The ticking itself can be quietened through contact with others. If you remain close to other people, the ticking becomes quieter and manageable.
As previously mentioned, the people come from a variety of different worlds. This means that not everyone here is human. There may be those with powers or abilities that do not exist in your own world. There may be creatures that are thought of as fairytales and myths where you come from. Or perhaps humans themselves don't exist in your world. Regardless, you'll find a mixture of all different races here, so keep your eyes open.
Some of the people who reside here may be those from your past. People who have passed away. In The City, it is possible for the dead to return to life. However, they'll only exist within the confines of The City. They no longer have a heartbeat, or a need to breath, but they're still able to walk and talk as thought they were alive. This includes people who die within The City. However, after dying, it takes 24 hours before a person is revived.
The City is self-contained, housing everything a person needs to survive.
Maps are available, detailing the location of each
destination within The City.
There are 12 apartment blocks each positioned at the various places through the centre, in relation to the points on a clock. These are where most residents have taken to living, though there are places outside of these blocks if required. Most rooms come with amenities already in place, and vary in size. Don't let the outside fool you though. Some can be huge inside.
Up until recently, everything has been practically free within The City. This included housing and food. However, that has since changed. A
currency has been introduced in the form of a series of differently coloured coins. Depending on where you spend the money, their value varies. Overall, the general system seems to be: Red
To date, it seems as though most children haven't been asked to pay for their rent or food, though there is no telling how long that will last.
In order to obtain money, most people have begun to seek employment, either from other residents, those in charge, or by setting up personal businesses. There are plenty of jobs available, so it should be easy enough if you're able to get there.
During your time here, you'll undoubtedly come across events most people call curses. These are times where citizens of The City are affected by events beyond their control. Most curses generally last 24 hours, though there have been some that have continued through to a full 72 hours. They can vary in severity, ranging from curses such as The City taking a trip back in time, or water turning into coffee, through to people turning into children, or being forced to relive their worst memories. No one is immune to the curses. However, that doesn't mean that everyone is always affected at the same time. There are also rare occasions where people are all affected by different curses on the same day.
If anyone has anything to ask/add/amend, please feel free to say so.
Light: Is it possible to have a word with you?
