No Armband For Seedorf
Milan’s Clarence Seedorf has defended his decision not to wear a black armband during the Rossoneri’s ill-fated clash against Atalanta yesterday. Every other player on the pitch in Bergamo chose to wear an armband as a mark of respect for Lazio fan Gabriele Sandri, who was killed by a policeman in Arezzo yesterday.

After the abandonment of the game due to violent protests from the Ultras, Seedorf explained why he hadn’t seen fit to follow the example of his fellow players. “I didn’t know who the armband was for,” the Dutchman told Sky Sport Italia. “I didn’t know the person or the facts. I also thought of past situations like when Kakha Kaladze’s brother was kidnapped and killed but the FIGC and Lega Calcio did nothing.”  Source

Bonera and Gilardino on Bergamo Incident
Milan defender Daniele Bonera has explained that the Rossoneri wanted to play on at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia. The game was abandoned after just six minutes when Atalanta Ultras broke the safety glass in protest at the shooting of Lazio fan Gabriele Sandri.

“We wanted to play,” Bonera told Sky Sport Italia. “What happened in Bergamo wasn’t related to the death of a man, it was more to do with the temperament of the fans. It would have been a positive gesture if we had continued to play, but I’m aware that the police saw the situation as unsafe.”

Diavolo hitman Alberto Gilardino also has deep regrets after the trip to the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia. “We’ve reached the limit,” he fumed. “We all have to feel a bit defeated by what has happened. We have been hearing the same thing for a while, but no solution has been found.” Source
