2. Nerdy Hobbies:

Let's see... I collect insects (I currently have 2 active paper wasp nests in my office... contained, of course).
I take things apart... just to see how they work. I've been doing that since I was a child.
I read scientific journals... and enjoy them greatly. ;) (Though one could argue that this is a requirement of my profession rather than a hobby).

Wikipedia... I can't stop reading it! So much information, so little time! Yes... I must post corrections whenever I notice the need for them.

Gaming, gaming, gaming! I can't stay away from computer games. I simply must master them! I started gaming an on old Odyssey^2, and haven't stopped since (though the technology and platforms have changed).

3. Educational history:

Bachelor of Science in Entomology - Purdue University
Master of Science in Forensic Entomology - University of Missouri
Doctor of Philosophy in Genetics - University of Missouri

My degrees are all in nerdy fields (Granted, one could argue entomology as being more of a geeky field...)

Overall GPA through college: 3.74 (women started noticing me, and my GPA took a hit... >_< )
Standardized Scores: I can't recall, it's been quite a while. I do remember my Biology GRE was 790, though.

4. Hours Spent on the Internet:

About 12 a day... a portion of this is due to requirements at work. The rest is skimming Wikipedia, updating blogs, chatting, and gaming. I'm always online. I have a notebook computer mount in my car, with a bluetooth link to my cell phone. If I'm on a drive for more than 20 minutes, I'm online while driving. Yes, I'm good at typing while driving. No, I haven't been in an accident because of it. I'm 6' tall and can easily steer with my knees while I type. Cruise control is a wonderful thing. ;)

5. Passions:

I love reading about the latest scientific advancements. I'm a member of the AAAS, and do enjoy reading my Science journals when they arive. While I do appreciate basic research, I'm much more passionate about how science can be applied. That's my job, in fact. I take genetics research and I find ways of turning it into a marketable product. I'm passionate about economics, and am a big fan of F.A. Hayek. I've been known to tell genetics jokes, and am always the first one to laugh at obscure science jokes at work.

I do have a few nerdy shots of myself... but unfortunately they're on my main computer system that blew out two days ago. The repair parts are on order. I'll post a couple as soon as the system is operational again.

6. Nerdy Tidbits:

I have rigged up magnetic artwork in my office at work. By this, I mean tethering neodymium magnets to strings and wires and balancing the fields in such a way that it looks as if portions of the artwork are floating in three-dimensional space. Unfortunately the cleaning staff likes to mess with it. >_<

I get annoyed when watching science fiction or crime dramas that clearly violate known scientific principles or general knowledge... Such as when in CSI they can identify the DNA of a suspect within an hour.

I'm an INTJ.

I could never land a girlfriend in high school. I tried, but I was just too socially awkward. I never went to prom (asked and was rejected). It wasn't until college that I was able to find women who could appreciate my nerdiness. I was definitely a late-bloomer when it came to love and romance.

I'll freely admit that I'm not a math nerd. Math was never one of my strong points. I've always been above-average at it, but never stellar. When it comes to the subject of biology and its related fields, however, I am a master. I read genetic code like a programmer. Life science is my element.

I don't like to have spelling or grammar errors in my writing. I'm a bit obsessive about it. However, if it's late and I'm sleepy (like now), I will slip at times. ;)

I'm the lead scientist and the director of research and development for the biotech company I work for.

(It's late... I'll post more as they come to mind.)

Geeky Crossovers:

I still have my long-boxes of comic books.
I have a collection of BattleTech toys (in addition to all the gaming materials).
I have all the 1st Edition Dungeons and Dragons books (yes, even Deities and Demigods with Cthulu, etc.)
I own a copy of every Farscape DVD, and have a huge Anime collection.
I build all my own computer systems, and get seriously disturbed when they aren't working at peak efficiency.

Do I qualify?
