He's captain of the hockey team and all the girls want him. But Pierre is harbouring a secret. He thinks nothing could be worse than people finding out the truth... Until he meets a boy who makes him think maybe his secret isn't worth keeping after all...
David
David had been in his hotel room for five hours and had ignore twenty-seven calls from Pierre. It's not that he didn't want to talk to Pierre... it was just that he didn't trust himself. He was afraid that if he heard Pierre's voice, he would give in and come home. And he couldn't do that. Pierre was the most amazing human being on the planet, inside and out, and he didn't deserve to have his life ruined all for someone like David. He just couldn't let that happen... so he sat on the bed, and each time Pierre's name and photo lit up his screen, it tore him apart a little more inside. He was completely destroyed. He just sobbed loudly, not caring who heard. He didn't want to be alive. He had nothing to live for anymore, and it tore him apart. Not having nothing, just not having Pierre.
Pierre
Pierre had left Maggie's apartment after she'd given him the advice to call David and see what was wrong so they could talk it out. But he wouldn't answer. WHY WOULDN'T HE ANSWER?! Pierre clutched to his head, bending over, and screamed, followed quickly by him standing up and falling directly to the ground and curling up in the middle of the floor to cry. He wrapped his arms around his knees and buried his face in them. He cried harder than he'd ever cried in his life. How did he get here? How did this happen?
When the sun came in through the window, waking Pierre, he wondered why the curtains weren't closed. He opened his eyes in an attempt to close them, but realized that he wasn't in his bedroom. He was lying on his living room floor, where he'd cried himself to sleep. He could still feel the streaks of dry tears on his cheeks. He could still feel the lump in his throat and the stabbing in his chest. Everything still hurt just as much as it did the night before. Then another thought struck him. He pulled his phone out of his pocket to see it was 11:16 am. Without being in his bedroom, he'd slept right through his alarm. Pierre frantically pulled himself off the floor, running out the door without showering or changing. He didn't care. He had to get to school! David might be there...
By the time Pierre reached the school, he could barely breathe, running full speed without stopping all the way there. He attacked the door and ran through the halls. It was lunchtime right now, but he ran to David's locker first anyways. He wasn't there, so he kept running right passed it, and back downstairs to the cafeteria, where he stopped in the doorway, sweating, and looking around frantically. Everyone was staring at him, but he didn't care. When he didn't see David anywhere, he ran to the table where Chuck was sitting with some friends.
"CHUCK! HAVE YOU... SEEN... DAV... ID?!" Pierre asked, panting for breath. Chuck had a worried expression on his face.
"No man, sorry, I haven't seen him all day. Is something-" That was as far as Chuck got.
"FUCK." Pierre said, before turning and bolting out of the caf, desperate to search the rest of the school. He got to the top of the stairs and was about to check the second floor bathroom when he turned a corner, and ran smack into someone. He mumbled apologies and tried to keep running when he heard a familiar voice. "Pierre?"
Pierre whipped around, in a hurry to keep looking, when he saw who it was. "RAYENNA. PLEASE TELL ME YOU'VE SEEN DAVID." He said desperately, moving towards her.
"Um... no., I haven't seen him since we left your apartment that day. Why, is something wrong?" She asked.
"Uh... no. I just, I HAVE TO GO." Pierre said frantically, turning to keep running, when he felt a small hand on his shoulder. He whipped his head around to shoot the girl a desperate look, wanting to get away and find his boyfriend.
"Pierre... you can talk to me." She said sweetly, nodding her head slowly. And in that moment, everything flashed through Pierre's mind. From meeting the sweet girl in the park, to seeing her in slutty clothing by his locker, to his boyfriend showing up at his apartment crying because of her, to seeing her and her parents accusing him of ruining David's life in his own living room, to this encounter right now. He ripped his arm from her grip.
"Fuck you." He said firmly, in a disgusted tone, before turning around to keep running through the hall.
Pierre barged into the bathroom, slamming open the doors to every stall, before running out and doing the same for the other two school bathrooms, and checking every single classroom in their three story school. David wasn't in here. That was the first time Pierre realized it... David was gone. Really gone. Even in the desperate times he'd had the night before, a small part of him hoped this would all blow over and he would soon be holding David in his arms again. But now he really didn't know... but he knew he had to try. David was the love of his life, and he wouldn't let him get away without a fight. With tears streaming down his cheeks, he ran faster than he'd ever run out of the school. He didn't care if it killed him, he was going to find his boyfriend. He ran first to David's three favourite restaurants... then his favourite stores... then to the mall... to the parks... and even to his parents' house, where they'd simply told him no and slammed the door in his face. He'd been running for hours and felt like his legs were going to give out when he realized there was one place he hadn't checked. They were a small town so they didn't have many sleeping accommodations, but they did have one hotel... and it wasn't very expensive either... so Pierre ran. He couldn't even feel his legs, but he ran and he ran until he was standing at the front desk, looking at a middle aged woman in a suit, trying to catch his breath while talking at the same time.
"M'aam... could... you... please... tell me... if a... a... a... a David... Desros... iers... checked in he... checked in here la... last night." He said, clutching to his stomach and panting.
"Sir, are you okay?" The woman asked.
"Yes I... I'm fine... just... ple... please tell... tell me... if... he's... here." He said, and it would have come out desperate if he wasn't struggling to breathe.
"Well..." the woman started, looking conflicted. "I'm not actually allowed to do this... but... he's in room 317." She said in a low voice, sounding desperate and ashamed. Pierre mumbled what was supposed to be a 'thank you,' as he ran for the stairs. He would have taken the elevator, but it would take too long. He ran, taking the steps two at a time, and amazed he could do it when he was so tired.
When he finally reached the door with the number 317 on it, he stopped for a minute, bent over with his hands on his knees, and tried to catch his breath. About three to five long minutes later, he was breathing right again, and he knocked on the door.
David
David was curled up on the bed, crying, when a knock was on the door. It was probably housekeeping. He decided to get rid of them, then go right back to where he was and never move again. He would just wait until he died of starvation, or thirst, or something... and wait for a hotel employee to find his body. What did he have to live for anyways?
He slowly trudged across the room, with puffy, eyeliner smeared eyes, and opened the door, to look into the equally puffy eyes of Pierre Bouvier.
One look into the sad eyes of his boyfriend... or... ex-boyfriend? He didn't know, but either way, it sent him over the edge and he instantly felt tears pouring down his face. They both just stood there, staring at each other, and crying. David didn't know what to do with Pierre standing here, and he guessed that Pierre hadn't really thought of what he would do when he got here. And he was right.
"Can we talk?" Pierre asked, breaking the silence. David just looked down. He really didn't know if he could. He was strong... but not this strong. He didn't know if he would be able to talk to Pierre and then let him walk out alone.
"Please?" Pierre choked out in a sob. The sound of it broke David's heart. It felt like someone had attached claws all around his heart and was now pulling on them full force in every direction. It actually killed him to see Pierre like this, especially knowing he was the one that caused it. It was the first time since he'd left that day, no, since Sebastien made his threat, that he thought maybe he hadn't chosen the right way to handle this. So he nodded weakly, and moved aside to let Pierre in.
They sat down together on the side of the bed, and David watched Pierre, who was looking at the floor, closely, as he waited for him to say something. Pierre finally looked up at David, who stayed facing Pierre, but shifted his eyes to avoid eye contact. He was ashamed of what he'd done. That didn't mean he would come home. He truly did believe that this was what was best for Pierre. But that didn't make it hurt less.
"David..." Pierre started, sounding like he was trying carefully to find the right words. "Please talk to me..." he said. "David. Look at me." David really didn't want to. He didn't want to see the hurt in the guy he loved's eyes. But being the one who caused it, he figured he deserved it. He looked up into the heart breakingly desperate, sad eyes of Pierre, who continued talking. "Now please tell me what happened..." He said. David would have answered him but he got the feeling he wasn't done talking. "I know you still love me, or you wouldn't be crying, and you wouldn't have let me in... so would you please just tell me what this is about so we can fix it?" He asked. David wanted nothing more than to wrap his arms around Pierre's neck and kiss him, and hold him, and feel his heart beating. He wanted to love him. But he couldn't. It was because he loved Pierre, that he couldn't love him. His life was so fucked up... but he figured, Pierre deserved the truth. He took a deep breath and looked up to face Pierre.
"It's... Sebastien." David started...
"WHAT?! David, you can't be afraid of him, you know I would never let him hurt you-" Pierre started.
"No... Pierre you don't understand. He said that... he was gonna tell people... about us. And... I couldn't let your life be ruined because of me. I do love you, and that's why I have to stay away." David said, looking down, a tear rolling down his cheek. Pierre placed two gentle fingers on David's chin and leaned his head up to look him in the eyes.
"David... listen to me. The only way my life could ever be ruined is if I lost you. Seb's a douche bag, and if he wants to tell people, let him. They would all find out eventually, we can't stay a secret forever. You have to understand that I would rather die than not be with you. If this is what he wants to do, then let him. We'll handle it. Together." Pierre told him. David felt like an idiot. How could he have even thought that leaving Pierre could be the right thing to do? And even more so, how could he believe that he would have the strength to stay away from him? David stared at Pierre for a long time, trying to form words in his head... and he couldn't take it anymore. He wrapped his arms around Pierre's neck and pulled their faces together roughly before pulling himself onto Pierre's lap to straddle him as he felt the lips, tongue, hair, and body, that he'd missed more over the past 24 hours than anybody would ever understand. Pierre pulled them both back onto the bed and started to undo David's belt buckle...
The Next Day
When David woke up, he was lying at home in his bed on his boyfriend's chest. After coming home with Pierre when they were... um... finished... at the hotel, they didn't do much. Just stayed in bed, and enjoyed each other, glad they were together again. David sat up in bed, hitting the off button on the alarm clock, and felt Pierre sit up with him. Pierre wrapped David up in his arms and David leaned his head in the spot where Pierre's neck met his shoulder.
"Are you sure you want to do this Pie?" David asked looking up with guilt and worry ridden eyes, into his boyfriend's which were filled with nothing but unconditional love.
"It's for the best. If we tell everyone, Sebastien can't, which takes away any pleasure he would have got from it. And this way, even if nobody ever talks to either of us again... I get to be with you all the time, and show the world how much I love you." He said smiling down at David who's eyes couldn't show any sign of regret anymore. Not with Pierre talking to him that way. Pierre had a way of making him believe that everything would be alright, no matter what.
Originally, their plan had been to walk into the caf at lunch and make the announcement. But when they were getting ready, David got a text letting him know that was when Seb would be telling everyone. How Seb got his number didn't matter at the moment, what mattered was everyone had to know long before then.
Pierre
Pierre stood with David next to him at the edge of the school's property. Everyone was already inside at their lockers getting ready to go to class, except a few people who had spares or were running late, and were still outside the building and could see Pierre and David clearly. Pierre looked down at his boyfriend who looked back up at him with fear-stricken eyes. Pierre turned his head to whisper casually in David's ear, "Baby it's okay. I know we haven't had the best track record with coming out, but that doesn't mean anything anymore. We have each other and no matter what happens today, that will never change." He said encouragingly. Okay, so he was just as terrified as David was, if not more, but he couldn't let him know that right now. David needed encouragement and he would be there to give that to him. And if by chance the whole thing ended up a trainwreck and he needed strength... he would be his strength. He would be anything David needed. They both looked forward at the school, and Pierre drew in a deep, shaky breath, feeling as though he may vomit or burst into tears. And he took David's hand.
Not much reaction was sparked walking through the parking lot, as there was nobody there but a few strangers. It was when they walked through the front door, hand in hand, that it started. Maybe it wouldn't have been so noticeable if they weren't... well... them. Pierre was captain of the hockey team, and one of the most popular guys in school, and David was the new kid who everyone knew, mostly because they all bullied him. Every single person in the hallway either stopped to stare, or turned around to see what everyone was staring at... then stopped to stare. Then the whispers started. Pierre could only catch parts of them. "...really be gay?" "how did I not..." "...wonder he wouldn't go out..." so on, so on... and Pierre didn't care. They walked up the stairs together, and stopped at Pierre's locker. So far, things were going exactly the way Pierre expected them too. Yeah, by lunch time, there would be a LOT of questions, but for now everyone was just too shocked, shy, or dumbfounded to do anything but stare, and sometimes whisper. At least it was an easy start to prepare them for the mayhem they would have to face at lunchtime.
After Pierre got what he would need for math class, they went to David's locker, where he got his things and they were eventually about to part ways until the break between classes. Pierre knew how nervous David must have been all morning, especially because he could feel the sweat in his palms. "I promise I'll meet you here after class. Just remember, if they make fun of you, ignore it, and if they ask any questions, don't answer them until we're together. Okay?" He said soothingly. David nodded and smiled sweetly up at him and Pierre's heart melted. He couldn't have resisted if he tried, as he placed a long, gentle kiss on David's cheek. "I'll see you later." He said, smiling lovingly down at his boyfriend and walking away as he heard the hallway erupt into chatter from those who'd witnessed the kiss.
Pierre made his way through the hall avoiding conversation as much as possible, and slid silently into his math class, and into his seat. It wasn't even two minutes before Chuck walked in and took his usual seat next to Pierre and turning instantly to talk to him. Pierre's heart pounded as he contemplated the possibilities of what Chuck would say...
They'd been best friends since kindergarten. Surely Chuck wouldn't let all that go because of this... would he?
"Man, have you heard what people have been saying about you?!" Chuck said laughing.
"Um... maybe. What?" Pierre asked. How was he supposed to say that the rumours were true?
"Dude everyone's saying you're gay with David!" Chuck said bursting into laughter. Pierre looked down shyly, then away, then back at Chuck, preparing himself to say what he needed to say. Then Chuck started talking again, sounding like he'd just realized something.
"Oh... dude, I'm sorry. I didn't think it would bother you. Look, if you don't want people spreading rumours about you I'll tell them to shut the-"
"It's true." Pierre said simply, cutting him off. Chuck let out a very short, very brief, laugh before looking up to realize Pierre was serious.
"Dude... since when are you gay?" Chuck asked, lowering his voice. He sounded a bit shocked... but nothing like anger, or fear... could he actually accept Pierre? Maybe?
"Always man..." Pierre said looking Chuck in the eye. "I've known since like, 9th grade, it just wasn't until I met David that I acted on it and then when Seb found out, he flipped, and beat the shit out of David, and threatened us, and so I thought maybe the secret wasn't worth keeping after all. I'm just hoping things will get easier now that people know."
"WAIT WHAT?! Man, I'm happy for you, but when did Seb THREATEN you?!" Chuck asked, concern and anger filling his features.
"Well... I guess you could say I've learned alot about seb in the past few weeks..." Pierre said, but when Chuck gave him a look that clearly told him that wasn't enough, he sighed and kept talking. Might as well tell him the whole story...
"A while back... when David and I first started dating... we were making out on my bed, when Seb walked in. He freaked out, but said he wouldn't tell anyone. Then, the next day, I was at work, and I came home to find David lying on my floor having the shit kicked out of him by Sebastien. Then if that wasn't enough, a little while later, me and David went out to dinner and saw him with Sophia, and to a movie, where we saw him with another girl. I think her name's Natalie. So anyways... a few weeks later, David and I saw Seb and Sophia again and it may have come out that he was cheating on her, so he cornered David and threatened to
tell everyone about us." Pierre finished his rant by letting out a quick deep breath.
Chuck just stared at Pierre, mouth hanging open, anger becoming more visible on his face. "Are you fucking joking?" He asked angrily.
"Nah man, it's cool. I'm done wasting my energy on him. I just want to be able to live my life without having to hide." Pierre told him, and really, it was true. He was done with all the anger. All the anger towards Seb, and Rayenna, and David's parents, and even his own parents. He just wanted to be happy.
Chuck took a deep breath, calming down to continue the conversation.
"Well that's great man. When did you and David get together?" He asked. And to Pierre's surprise, it didn't sound like there was any ulterior motive to the question. He was just a curious friend.
"Haha, um... after you left, the first night we worked on our project." Pierre said awkwardly.
Chuck's eyes got so wide they could have fallen out of his head, and he started laughing. "Dude, that was like, the day after you met him! Whore." Chuck said playfully, laughing, and Pierre couldn't help but laugh along with him. For the first time that day... he thought maybe this whole thing might turn out well. The bell rang, starting class.
David
David couldn't believe how accepting everyone had been in his first class. As he put his books in his locker, he turned to see his boyfriend walking towards him, and wrapped his arms around his neck, kissing him passionately. Right there. In the middle of the hallway. It felt great. As they parted, Pierre opened his mouth to speak, when the words that came out, weren't even his words.
"THANKS SO MUCH." David heard a girl cry. He turned his head to see his sister standing there, and tried his best to stay calm.
"I told you to stay away from us." David said sternly, and suddenly he was glad nobody else was in this side-hall of the school.
"OH YEAH?! WELL YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD THAT TO YOUR BOYFRIEND BEFORE YOU SCARED HIM HALF TO DEATH AND HE HAD TO COME TO ME FOR COMFORT." She said, tears pouring down her cheeks.
"WHAT?!" Pierre practically yelled. Then Rayenna continued.
"Deny it if you want, we BOTH know it happened. And now we can BOTH deal with THIS." She said, as she threw a small plastic bag at them which landed between them on the floor, and she stomped off.
"DAVID, I SWEAR I DIDN'T-" Pierre started. David laughed.
"I know, Pie." He said smiling. He reached down and picked up the bag to see what was in it and his heart shattered into a thousand pieces. He looked up into Pierre's eyes, his own filled with tears, and suddenly he didn't know. David threw the pregnancy test reading "positive" back on the ground, and ran out of the school crying.
