Rayenna
Rayenna had her things packed. She took as much as she could carry by hand which ended up being two suitcases and a backpack filled with clothes, CD’s, her school books, her laptop, and an extra pair of shoes. She checked her phone, which she knew she wouldn’t have for long seeing as her parents always paid the bill, and it was exactly eleven. Well they should be happy. She was leaving an hour earlier than she had to. She pulled up the handles on her suitcases and put on her backpack. She stood at the door, took one last look at her room, her sanctuary, all of the things she was leaving behind. She took a deep breath, then made her way downstairs and out the door, without saying goodbye to her parents and without a clue where she was going. But there were only a couple of places that she thought she might have even the slightest hope in hell of staying, so she figured she’d just start at the one she felt most comfortable going to, and if that failed, which it probably would, she would try the second.
Pierre
Pierre and David looked at each other suggestively and started laughing. Chuck and Seb had been in the bathroom for at least fifteen minutes, and it didn’t sound like there was a lot of talking going on…
Suddenly the door opened slowly, and the two of them emerged, looking way too guilty for two friends talking out a misread situation.
Pierre and David looked at each other. David’s mouth fell open into a huge, weird, open-mouthed smile, and Pierre just grinned wildly, amused by the irony of it all, and happy for his friends… whatever it was he was being happy for. The two of them walked back awkwardly. Seb sitting on the couch beside David and Chuck taking his place back in the arm chair.
“So…” Pierre said, dragging out the word and holding back a laugh.
“Shut up.” Seb said, mimicking their earlier conversation. David and Pierre looked at each other, both pressing their lips together holding back laughter.
Chuck rolled his eyes at them and sat back in his chair. Seb and Chuck sat there awkwardly. Pierre and David tried their hardest not to laugh at the situation and how they were handeling it. But nobody said a word, and quite frankly… it was stupid. They had to talk about it.
“So are-” Pierre started.
“I said shut up.” Seb said, cutting him off. Pierre could hear the embarrassment in his voice.
“Dude, you don’t have to be embarrassed.” Pierre said lightly, truly trying to help his friends now.
“I like girls.” Seb said. Simply just that. I like girls. And it wasn’t a lie. He did like girls.
“Okay…” Pierre started. “So you’re bi? Pan?” He asked. Seb exhaled loudly knowing he wasn’t getting out of this.
“Bi I guess…” He said quietly looking down.
“So, are-” Pierre started again, and once again, Sebastien cut him off.
“I should go.” He said standing, and heading for the door.
“Uh… yeah, me too… give me a call another time and we can work on the project…” Chuck said, also leaving. When the door closed, Pierre and David exchanged a look, and both burst out laughing, rolled their eyes, and just watched the closed door, wondering exactly what happened in the bathroom… when a knock came on the door.
“That was fast.” David said quickly and they both laughed.
Pierre got up to answer the door thinking it was probably Seb, Chuck, or both. All of the humour was quickly out of the room which got at least 50% heavier when Pierre opened the door and saw Rayenna standing there. She wasn’t ever gonna give this up, was she?
David
David leaned back on the couch looking around Pierre to see who was at the door, and anger flared inside him when he saw. He jumped off the couch and walked to his boyfriend’s side, reaching around Pierre and slamming the door. Or, he meant to slam it, but she got it with her hand and pushed it back open.
“Would you people stop slamming the door in my face?” She asked in a weird tone… she almost sounded… hurt. Because of a door? No, it was something else. David exhaled loudly.
“What do you want? You have five words or less.” He said sternly.
“Um okay… can I stay with you?” She asked. David gave her flat, disbelieving look. Then slammed the door again. He tried walking away but she knocked again and he knew she wasn’t leaving.
He opened it again. Pierre was already sitting back on the couch, letting David handle it.
“David, please let me explain!” Ray pleaded. He rolled his eyes.
“Oh, this should be good. Go.” David said in an amused voice, now having fun with it.
“I said I want to keep the baby, and Jeff does too, and mom kicked me out.” She said, her eyes begging for understanding.
“Wow, sucks to be you.” David said cruelly before attempting to close the door… again. She caught it… again.
“DAVID PLEASE! I HAVE NOWHERE TO GO!” She said. He shook his head. She could find somewhere if she really tried.
“Shouldn’t have got knocked up in grade nine.” He said and this time, he did close the door, and it stayed closed through all the times she knocked again after that and begged him to open it from the other side, until she finally left.
David was sitting back with Pierre on the couch.
“David… look, I don’t like your sister. But you accepted Seb when he had no right to even look at you. So if you want her to stay here for a while, I’m okay with it…” Pierre said. David looked up at him and smiled.
“Pie, that’s sweet… but I would rather kiss Chuck than live with her for one more second.” David said, smiling.
“David don’t even talk like that. Chuck would never cheat on Seb!” Pierre joked and they both burst out laughing. They didn’t know why they found the whole thing so funny. In fact, it was kind of nice not being the only gay couple at their school. But still… for some reason, it was absolutely hilarious.
Sebastien
Seb fell back on to his bed. He needed some time to think. Just yesterday, he was considering going back to try and fix things with Sophia. But now… he had no interest in fixing things. He had no interest in Sophia. All he wanted was to be with Chuck. Could that even happen so fast? He took a deep breath, and knew what he needed. He was never very good with words, and he knew he would have to talk to Chuck about this, but he knew one way that could always make his thoughts come out.
He picked up his acoustic guitar and a pick and started strumming away at a random melody, and somehow a song just started coming out of him, along with everything he’d been feeling…
Before he knew it, Seb was standing at Chuck’s bedroom door with his guitar case, unsure of what to do. Did he walk right in like usual? No, that didn’t seem right… so he knocked softly.
“Come in.” Chuck said from the other side, probably thinking it was his mom or brother. But still Seb’s heart sped hearing Chuck’s voice. And he didn’t want it to, he knew it should feel wrong. But nothing in this world had ever felt so right.
Chuck
Didn’t his mom hear him? He said come in… what was taking so long? Then the door slowly started to open, and in walked Seb… not his mom, Seb. He instantly pulled himself up, sitting up straighter in his bed and his heart raced. How could he be feeling these things for SEB? It didn’t really matter how… all that mattered was that he was, and there was nothing he could do to stop it. And honestly, he didn’t want to…
Seb came in and sat on the bed, on the opposite side from Chuck, closing the door behind him.
“Hey…” He said looking at Chuck, then down at his lap.
“Hey…” Chuck replied in the same tone, and neither one knew what to say.
“So… I didn’t really know what I was gonna say to you when I got here… so I found another way to say it.” Seb said, and he started to open his guitar case and take it out. Chuck’s heart swooned. Seb wrote a song for him…
“It’s not done or anything, but I’ll play you what I have so far…” He said, and Chuck smiled awkwardly. He didn’t care if it was done, he didn’t care if it was any more than one word. Sebastien wrote him a song. The most perfect human being in the world… wrote him a song.
Seb started playing a soft melody. Then the words…
“There’s nothing wrong with being here now…
We’ve got things to talk about…
My excuses, I believe them…
I don’t have to justify…
And I fall for you…
I fall for you…
I fall for you…
And I know you feel the same…”
It took everything Chuck had not to start crying. The song was beautiful. Sebastien… was beautiful. The song was coming to an end and suddenly the last few notes didn’t matter. Chuck took the guitar out of Seb’s hands, placing it gently on the ground, and pressed their lips together, pulling the smaller boy on top of him.
Rayenna
As she walked up to the door of the house, Rayenna just didn’t feel right. But she had nowhere to go, and she couldn’t live on the streets, for her baby’s sake. And they were good people… if anyone was going to take her in it would be them. So she took a deep breath and knocked on the door. A couple minutes later, she heard footsteps on the other side, and the door opened. Before she could say anything, Leo gave her a look, showing pity.
“They didn’t…” He said softly, tilting his head to the side. He was a smart man. She looked down, and let a tear run down her cheek as she gathered the courage to say what she wanted to say.
“Come on in…” Leo said, taking her suitcases from her hands and moving from the doorway to let her in. Leo closed the door behind her and led her to the living room, where Sara and Jeff were sitting, watching TV. Leo was friendly and welcoming, but she just felt awkward and intrusive.
“Jeff, can you show Rayenna up to the guest room. She’ll be staying there for a while.” Leo said simply, and Jeff just nodded, wide eyed, and jumped up.
“Um y-yeah, f-follow me.” He said, taking the suitcases from his dad. Rayenna didn’t say anything, just looked down and followed him upstairs, into a large room with a dresser, a large window with curtains that were open, and a double bed, fully made. Jeff set her suitcases down beside the dresser and she slung her backpack off her shoulder to set it down with them. Jeff looked at her carefully. When she kept her view planted firmly on the ground, he leaned his head down sideways to look at her.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” He asked. She finally looked up at him, tears in her eyes.
“Not really…” She said. And she didn’t. She just wanted someone to be there for her… a friend… anyone. And even though she tried to stop it, something deep deep down in her heart… wanted it to be Jeff.
Jeff nodded his head to the side, for her to follow him, and he climbed on the bed, sitting him up with his back leaning on the wall. She slowly walked over, and as she got on the bed to come sit beside him, he pulled her onto his lap, and wrapped his arms around her. She leaned her head into his chest and curled up, as the tears fell more freely. And she just let her eyes cry, and her heart enjoy having Jeff hold her. Because when it came down to it… what she felt for Pierre wasn’t love. It was an obsession. And she was too wrapped up in it to see what… or who… was right in front of her.
Pierre
Pierre and David were still sitting on the couch. They’d turned the TV on and were really just passing time before the inevitable moment when Seb, Chuck, or both, came back. They were just flipping through, cuddling, trying to find something new to watch, when a knock came at the door. They exchanged a knowing look, and yelled together. “COME IN!” They said, and waited as the door opened and Chuck and Seb walked in… hand in hand. Pierre and David both had huge smiles on their faces, and were about to talk when-
“Shut up.” They said together, closing the door and walking in. Pierre and David waited to see which of them would come sit beside them on the couch and which would sit in the chair… only to be even more surprised and amused when Chuck sat down on the armchair, with Seb sitting on his lap. Pierre opened his mouth again to congratulate them.
“Let’s just work on the project.” Seb said, before he could get the words out. Pierre laughed.
“Okay…” He said, and David walked away laughing to get the project stuff.
Chuck
It was about 8:30 when they were done working on the project and hanging out, and Chuck had finally said goodnight to Sebastien and was walking into his house. “I’m home!” He announced, walking into the living room where his mom was sitting on a chair with a lamp on, reading. He sat down on the end of the couch and she put her book down.
“There you are. How was your day?” She asked smiling. Chuck smiled back. In fact, he’d been smiling non stop all the way home.
“It was really good mom.” He said nodding happily. She gave him a suggestive look.
“Oh really…? What did you do?” She asked smiling at him.
“I was at Pierre’s working on a project with him, Seb, and David.” He answered, and he hoped his mom couldn’t hear the change in tone in his voice when he said Seb’s name.
“Huh.” She said, eyeing him closely. “Well you seem to be happy… were you by any chance also with… a girl?” She asked, smiling suggestively. Chuck’s eyes got wide and his heart sped, what was he supposed to tell her? His mom laughed.
“Honey, you’re 18. You don’t have to be embarrassed about being with a girl…” His mom said, and he knew he couldn’t lie to her. He knew how long it took David and Pierre to come out which made this feel weird, but she was his mom, and he didn’t see any point in hiding who he was from her.
“Um… I was with someone mom…” He said looking down. Mrs. Comeau gasped.
“I knew it! What’s her name? Do I know her? Is she pre-” She started ranting before Chuck cut her off.
“Mom, you didn’t let me finish. I was with someone… but… it wasn’t necessarily a girl…” He said, letting the thought finish itself. A look of understanding crossed his mother’s features.
“Oh…” She said.
