Earl

I'm watching this show "My Name is Earl" and it seems like it is just all about a guy doing his ninth step. Am I right recovery people? He's maintaining anonymity by never mentioning any program but he has a list of people he has wronged and amends he has to make and he spends his days making those amends. And he is clearly motivated by his need ( Read more... )

I watched the pilot of that show and thought the same thing, that they apparently built a whole series around the concept of someone doing their 9th Step, just without being in recovery from anything. Like the producers thought the writers were onto some really unique concept... Heh.

It's interesting how media treats it. Well, I'm interested always because of my potential writing of a memoir and how to treat the program. Have you read Nerd Girl yet?

All I saw was the tv commercial for the show and I thought the same thing too. It's funny, hardly anyone is in recovery in real numbers, but I guess in Hollyweird it's de riguer.

Yeah actually so many of my brushes with celebrity have taken place in the rooms or in rehab.

I like Jason Lee but I haven't been able to catch the show. It didn't sound too impressive, but I'll give it a try.

I thought it was funny as hell, especially coming from a small town - everything seems awfully familiar.

I like the show, but he's so off on the concept of karma that it irks me. =/

I don't know anything other than the popular concept of karma. But after seeing misrepresentations of twelve step programs everywhere I can identify with your frustration.

Yeah, I noticed that right away, too, but that's kind of the endearing quality about Earl. Boy just doesn't know!

I'm highly amused by the show, but I love Jason Lee, and I'm amused by him calling Darnell "Crabman" all the time.

i think the show is so funny ~ i watch it every week, then "the office" after that. i don't analyze it too much. i especially like the flashbacks of the wrongs actually being committed. hilarious.

but on to more important subjects: did you see the clips of paris hilton getting in that car crash ~ and who's in the car with her and kimberly stewart???? fucking TALAN from laguna beach!!! and kristen was in last week's US magazine saying that she'll be in the next al pachino movie! damn.

I have not seen those clips but that is crazy. Reality show crossovers. Well Laguna Beach always looked more like a regular show than a reality one. And Talan annoys me for some reason. I love Paris though, just because she seems like she doesn't give a shit about anything and she is famous just for being famous.
